Nick Diaz shook the world after his manager announced that the former title contender is looking at an early 2021 return to the octagon. The elder Diaz brother has been out of action for over five years now, and last competed against Anderson Silva in a losing affair. However, both the fighters tested positive for banned substances, with Nick Diaz testing positive for marijuana consumption. Diaz was handed a five-year ban which was later reduced to three years. While the ban was lifted a couple of years ago, Diaz showed no interest in returning to the octagon until now.

In a video posted on Instagram, Nick Diaz can be seen throwing some punches and looks really good ahead of his potential return to the octagon. While one might assume that Diaz’s prime days are behind him, it’s safe to assume that we will only know the definite answer to that once we see Nick Diaz inside the octagon once again.
Who should Nick Diaz face in his UFC return?
The list of UFC fighters who have called out Nick Diaz is truly endless. Stephen Thompson called it an honor to welcome back Diaz to the octagon, while also showing his concerns over the possibility of Diaz actually returning to the octagon. Darren Till and Diego Sanchez also called out the former Strikeforce Champion, with Daniel Cormier favoring Leon Edwards to lock horns against Diaz. The #3 Welterweight contender was in complete agreement and called out the elder Diaz brother for a scrap inside the octagon.

“That’s the fight to make I would love to scrap with Nick” Leon Edwards captioned as he called out the former Welterweight title contender. Leon Edwards is currently without an opponent and needs a big win to get his chance at the Welterweight gold. With Jorge Masvidal expected to face Nate Diaz in a BMF title rematch, and Colby Covington set to take on Tyron Woodley later this month, it makes perfect sense for UFC to book Leon Edwards vs Nick Diaz. The match-up doesn’t only help Leon Edwards who hasn’t had a fight for more than a year now, but also puts Nick Diaz at the top and could look at a title opportunity with a win over Edwards. Only time will tell if Nick Diaz will ever return to the octagon, but rest assured, interesting match-ups are endless.
