Former UFC middleweight champ Israel Adesanya will return to action on April 8 at UFC 287. He will go up against the current champ Alex Pereira, who beat Izzy for the belt at UFC 281. Despite being in a fight camp, Izzy did not forget to do his usual event reaction video on his YouTube channel. However, his reaction to the main event fight between Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili was perhaps his funniest one yet!
Izzy previously reacted to UFC 285, where Jon Jones submitted Ciryl Gane in the main event. In contrast to that, Israel did not seem to have any interest in the Merab fight at all. The video starts off with Israel reacting to Said Nurmagomedov vs Jonathan Martinez. Although fans thought Said should have gotten the win, Israel had the fight for Martinez.
He was also very excited to see Jonathan lock in an armbar against Said. Izzy was really entertained by the Ryan Spann vs Nikita Krylov fight and the co-main event between Alexander Volkov and Alexandr Romanov. However, when it came to the main event, Izzy became increasingly disinterested in the bout and eventually fell asleep by the time the contest ended!
Fans react to Israel Adesanya falling asleep during Petr Yan vs Merab Dvalishvili fight
Merab Dvalishvili dominated Petr Yan via a unanimous decision. If the 50-45 scorecard was not enough to illustrate Merab’s dominance, he created a new record for the most takedown attempt with 49! He blew past Cain Velasquez’s previous record of 33. From neutralizing Petr Yan’s striking to breaking his will, the fight was extremely one-sided.
Although Merab and his team were extremely happy with how the fight went, fans did not share the same opinion. Even Israel Adesanya, who himself is an elite fighter and understands the sport, could not stay awake during the fight. However, Israel is currently in a fight camp and perhaps it made him tired, which led to him dozing off! But, that did not stop fans from making some hilarious comments underneath on his channel, “FREESTYLEBENDER.”
User venkatwin wrote, “Merab is awesome dominating Yan over 5 rounds and simultaneously knocking out izzy in the fifth round.” Another user Dillon Seckman wrote, “Izzy sleepin with his eyes open and still breaking down the fight is goat level stuff.” User Manda made a suggestion about Izzy’s KO loss against Alex Pereira and jokingly wrote, “Adesanya slept like Periera was in the room. Jk.”
So all in all, fans had quite a fun time discussing Adesanya falling asleep during the event. But, someone who is not having a fun time, is Petr Yan, who has lost 3 fights in a row now. The former bantamweight champ has seemingly lost a step since his loss to Aljamain Sterling in the rematch at UFC 273. There are also suggestions amongst the fans that he should perhaps leave the UFC. So it will be interesting to see Yan’s next career move.
