Conor McGregor is used to living in the public eye. However, his new Netflix documentary, “McGregor Forever” allows fans to peek into his life behind the scenes. As such, the documentary has also allowed us to listen to the thoughts of the people around Conor, including his manager, Audie Attar.
For those unaware, Attar is the President of Paradigm Sports Management and Conor’s manager. Thus, he is one of the most important people in Conor’s close circle. In the lead-up to Conor’s trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, Attar made some interesting observations about Conor’s demeanor.
As such, Attar says, “One notable thing, the first time ever, Dee’s not here and the kids. The fact that she’s not here, I think, does him a favor.” Further, he adds, “Definitely more testosterone in the air. There’s definitely more aggression, but that increased aggression is a very good thing for the fight environment.” Thus, Audie truly believed that the Notorious One being away from his family brought out the best in him.
Ahead of the UFC 264 bout, McGregor seemed like his earlier, ruthless self. Even in sparring, Conor seemed to be in the best shape of his career. Unfortunately, he was unable to showcase all that hard work as he ended up suffering a severe leg break near the end of the very first round. Thus, Poirier was awarded the TKO victory in their trilogy bout.
Conor McGregor’s wife made him “soft” during training camp
Previously, Conor’s wife Dee Devlin, and his kids were close to him during his camp for UFC 257. Training in Dubai ahead of the fight in Abu Dhabi, Conor would spend a lot of time with his family in between his training. In the documentary, we see Dee even helping Conor during the weight cut. As such, many felt as though it was the true reason behind ‘nice Conor’ showing up at UFC 257.
Throughout episode 3, we see Conor preparing for his second fight against Poirier. For the most part, the Irishman seemed calm and affable during the training camp as well. Even during the press conference and his interactions with Poirier made it seem as though Conor had matured and cut out the trash talk. Thus, Conor seemed to be more respectful and humble, something that we hadn’t really seen from him before.
Although Conor connected against The Diamond with some crisp shots and slick combinations, he eventually suffered a devastating KO loss. Having suffered a tremendous amount of damage to his leg, McGregor was unable to evade Poirier’s devastating punches and suffered his first-ever KO loss.
Having recognized his errors, Conor then made some adjustments. Thus, he began leaving his family at home and suggested other fighters should do the same. Despite the outcome, fans witnessed a much more fired-up Conor at UFC 264, something that has continued ahead of his showdown with Michael Chandler this year.
