For the most part, Joe Rogan is a curious man and loves to learn about new and different things. Whilst he is very keen to listen to the interesting guests on his podcast, MMA remains his one true love. Thus, when Mark Zuckerberg won a Jiu-Jitsu tournament, Rogan could hardly contain his excitement.
In a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, the UFC commentator was joined by fellow stand-up comedians Kim Congdon and Sara Weinshenk. Whilst the majority of their conversation revolved around the stand-up and the comedy world, the discussion soon veered off towards MMA.
As a former martial artist himself, Joe encouraged his guests to try their hand at the sport as well. Specifically, he suggested that they should try Muay Thai. Subsequently, the conversation led to Mark Zuckerberg. Commending the Facebook CEO’s recent win at a BJJ tournament, Rogan had some high praises. “Did you see Mark Zuckerberg won a gold medal in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition?” He continues, “Mark Zuckerberg is a f*cking savage.”
According to Joe, it is especially impressive since Zuckerberg, whose net worth is in the billions, does not need to compete in BJJ. However, despite his infinite wealth, Zuckerberg continues to challenge himself to learn new skills and explore new things. Notably, Mark has begun taking an interest in the sport in the last few years and has even discussed it on an episode of Joe’s podcast.
Mark Zuckerberg’s ties to Joe Rogan, MMA, and the UFC
Previously, Mark Zuckerberg spoke about how he truly enjoyed MMA and how delving into wrestling and Jiu Jitsu has been a game changer for him. According to Mark, MMA is physically and intellectually engaging and requires complete focus at all times. Thus, Mark is a firm believer that MMA ‘truly is the best sport’ and has since introduced a lot of his friends to it as well.
Recently, Zuck made waves in the MMA world after footage emerged of him competing in a BJJ tournament. In his first ever time competing, the 38-year-old won a gold and a silver medal. Reportedly, Mark competed in the white belt Master 2 lightweight division, representing Guerilla Jiu-Jitsu in the tournament. Taking to Instagram, Mark proudly showcased his achievement.

However, what the Facebook CEO did not share is how he got into the tournament itself. According to Rogan, Zuckerberg had a very shrewd plan to compete in the tournament without revealing his identity till the last second. “This is what he did. He wore a Covid mask and he f*cking put a hat on and he hid. He used an alias”.
For the most part, we have seen Zuckerberg’s association with the UFC. Notably, Zuckerberg reportedly bought out the entire arena for UFC Vegas 61 in October last year. Not only that, but Mark was also present in Perth, Australia to watch Islam Makhachev vs Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284. Thus, it appears that Mark is a big fan of the sport and a partner of the UFC, and long may it continue.
