One of the greatest lightweight fighters of all time, Tony Ferguson, is gearing up for his comeback inside the octagon against the fan favorite Paddy Pimblett at UFC 296 in December. In anticipation of the bout and with the determination to break his six-fight losing streak, Ferguson has left no aspect of his preparation unattended.
Notably, the Former Interim Lightweight Champion has enlisted the expertise of David Goggins, a former Navy SEAL and motivational athlete, to assist him in getting ready for the upcoming fight. Goggins recently shared insights into Ferguson’s training on Instagram.
According to Goggins, ‘El Cucuy’ successfully completed the rigorous ‘Hell Week’ training, making him the first to conquer this challenging feat. Despite Ferguson pushing his body to the extreme to get ready for the upcoming bout against Paddy Pimblett, some critics have expressed concerns about his training regimen, suggesting that it could potentially hinder his performance by slowing him down.
However, UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley has nothing but respect for Tony for choosing to go through something as intense as this towards the end of his career. “Yeah, that’s terrifying. If David’s like, I’ll train you for a week, I’d say I’m good. I’m good, bro. I mean, f*ck, damn huge respect for Tony Ferguson”, said Sugar on his YouTube channel.
For those who are not aware, ‘Hell Week’, a crucial component of the training for US Navy SEALs, involves enduring physical tasks for more than 20 hours a day. David Goggins, often referred to as ‘the toughest man alive,’ has earned this nickname for a reason. He has successfully completed three Hell Weeks in the past. Goggins now motivates individuals and promotes fitness on social media through his intense pep talks.
Sean O’Malley once imitated the training methods of Tony Ferguson
Back in March 2020, when the world was going through the COVID-19 pandemic, Tony Ferguson posted a video of himself dominating a defenseless training system. Days after that, UFC Bantamweight Champion Sean O’Malley followed suit by sharing his own high-intensity training footage, giving a nod to ‘El Cucuy’.
In the video posted by ‘Sugar‘, he is observed navigating the studio space, engaging in a face-off with a tennis ball, confronting a trio of punching bags, grappling with a training dummy, demonstrating notable no-hands jiu-jitsu technique, and concluding with a cooldown session on an exercise bike.

The UFC champion will make his first title defense against old rival Marlon Vera at UFC 299. The duo shares some significant history, as Chito Vera is the only fighter to have defeated O’Malley in mixed martial arts.
