Next weekend’s UFC 272 has a stacked card. Rafael Dos Anjos will finally make his return after many fights falling through. It will also feature the likes of Kevin Holland, Edson Barboza and Bryce Mitchell. However, all the focus will be on the main event of the evening between Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington.
Although this fight does not have any belts on the line, the magnitude of this fight is such that a championship belt is irrelevant. The rivalry between them has become so massive and bitter that they will be headlining a Pay Per View (PPV) on their own. A big part of that was American Top Team (ATT).

Both Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington were a part of ATT. Not only they were training partners, but they also shared the same apartment. Masvidal and Covington also were at the corner for each other during a few of their fights. Now the founder of the gym has finally revealed how the ‘Chaos’ became a part of the team.
Dan Lambert: ‘Colby Covington was selected to be a part of the process’
Dan Lambert was the founder of the American Top Team. The gym has become a mainstay for elite fighters such as Dustin Poirier, Amanda Nunes and Tyron Woodley. During the countdown video for UFC 272, Lambert revealed how Colby Covington became a part of this esteemed establishment.
“Building a team has changed dramatically over the years. During the early days, there were just so few people doing it that you had to build people from ground up. You had to go out and try to find people to could help the other guys on your team.”
“And we were trying to bring in some outside wrestlers that had recently gotten out of college to try to up the wrestling side of our gym. We had people sending their resumes. And Colby sent his resume in and he was one of the guys that we selected to be a part of that program.”
The grudge match of a lifetime will finally see its culmination at UFC 272. Neither Jorge Masvidal nor Colby Covington will be willing to give the other an inch of advantage. Both are coming off losses to Kamaru Usman. Hence, they will be looking to get their careers back on track with a big win on March 6.
