Ty Gwerder is an American MMA fighter who is also currently dating Australian UFC fighter Casey O’Neill. The couple has been together for a long time but has yet to tie the knot. Ty and Casey regularly share pictures of them on Instagram and attend each other’s fights. However, let’s take a look at the time when Casey O’Neill’s boyfriend was humbled after losing a bout against Shane Sobnosky.
Back in 2022, Ty Gwerder faced the Texas-born MMA star Shane Sobnosky at Freedom Fight Night 2. Despite promising to “steal the show” before the fight, Gwerder had a tough night. Ty was knocked out by Sobnosky within the first few seconds of the fight. Casey O’Neill was also in attendance that night as she faced her boyfriend get humbled by Sobnosky.

Following the fight, Ty Gwerder was brutally mocked by several fans all over the world. Kyle Antony Mee, popularly known as The MMA Guru, also made fun of Gwerder on his YouTube channel. Reacting to Gwerder getting knocked out, Kyle said, “What a piece of sh*t! I hope he cries about it. There’s nothing better than seeing someone’s hopes and dreams crash and tumble”.
The MMA Guru, however, was also quick to praise Shane Sobnosky. Despite landing the knockout blow, it’s interesting to mention that Ty Gwerder had almost knocked out Shane with a left-hand punch. However, Sobnosky displayed insane recovery skills and jumped back to his feet to deliver the ultimate blow to Gwerder.
Ty Gwerder got his revenge against Shane Sobnosky a year later
Despite suffering an embarrassing defeat against Shane Sobnosky, Ty Gwerder didn’t have to wait long to get his revenge. Sobnosky revealed in a previous interview that Gwerder had challenged him to a rematch not long after their initial fight. However, Shane had turned down the fight, saying that they should wait for some time to build up the storyline.
However, as fate would have had it, Ty Gwerder and Shane Sobnosky faced each other in the semifinals of the United Fight League 3. The second time, Ty looked much more prepared as he fought a closely contested fight against Sobnosky. In the end, Gwerder won the fight by split decision after two judges scored 29-28 in favor of him while another scored 29-28 in favor of Shane.
