Germaine ‘The Iron Lady’ de Randamie is a former kickboxer and mixed martial artist from the Netherlands. She is involved in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and was the first UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion.
Randamie is undefeated in sanctioned kickboxing matches. De Randamie also competed in the Strikeforce featherweight division before joining the UFC.
De Randamie hasn’t participated in the UFC in almost two years, with her most recent victory coming in 2020 by submission over Julianna Pena. She was supposed to compete at UFC 268 in November, last year, however, she was forced to withdraw due to injury.
De Randamie has predominantly competed at 135 pounds in her UFC career, however she went up to 145 pounds to challenge for the first UFC featherweight championship. With a unanimous decision victory against Holly Holm, she won the promotion’s first featherweight championship.
De Randamie was eventually stripped of the belt after refusing to defend her championship against then-challenger Cris Cyborg, citing the latter’s history with performance-enhancing substances. She swore to fight again and returned to bantamweight, where she went 3-1 in her next four fights, losing via majority decision to Amanda Nunes.
De Randamie’s UFC career was hampered by inactivity when the Dutch fighter missed significant periods due to working full-time as a police officer in her native country. After withdrawing from the bout with Aldana in 2021, she ultimately was removed from the UFC rankings.
Germaine de Randamie’s pregnancy announcement
‘The Iron Lady’ is now taking a much longer rest from the spotlight as she and her partner prepare to have their first child.
The former UFC featherweight champion has confirmed on the social media platform, Instagram that she is expecting a child in early 2023.
“We can finally scream it from the top of our lungs “ WE ARE PREGNANT,” “We are blessed with our little miracle, expected March 2023.” de Randamie wrote in the post.
Germaine de Randamie feels ready for a return after Amanda Nunes’ retirement
Amanda Nunes announced her retirement from the sport she has dominated for many years after blazing up the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada.
As previously stated on social media, with the women’s bantamweight belt vacant, former champion Germaine de Randamie has begun to train for her return and might compete before the end of the year.
As per reports from MMA Mania, De Randamie has been a frequent title contender during her time in the Octagon, and she aspires to reclaim the throne she previously occupied. If the September/October timetable is legitimate, she might appear in UFC 293 in Australia or UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, as well as one of many Fight Night shows.
