Anshul Jubli is only the second Indian to earn a UFC contract after Bharat Khandare. However, Jubli is the only Indian fighter to win a fight in the UFC. He is an up-and-coming fighter who has a great professional MMA record.
Jubli was born on January 13, 1995, in Bhatwari, India. Nicknamed the ‘King of Lions’, Jubli is a native of a village called Bhatwari located in the Uttarkashi district of the North-Indian state of Uttarakhand. His father was a member of the Indian army, therefore, he had to live in several places due to his father’s transfers.
Jubli himself also started preparing to join the army at an early age. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and became a school teacher for a while. However, during his preparations, he was exposed to the world of MMA and did not look back.
Jubli is an Indian by nationality and resides in the capital city of New Delhi. His parents are also Indian. It is reported that he follows the religion of Hinduism.
Anshul Jubli’s journey to the UFC
While preparing to join the Indian army, Jubli reportedly was introduced to MMA through a friend. He started watching it on YouTube. Jubli was inspired by Firas Zahabi and John Danaher to train and become an MMA fighter.
Jubli trained under Siddharth Singh at the Crosstrain Fight Club in Delhi. He learned boxing under CommonWealth Games medal winner Rohit Tokas at the Tokas Boxing Club.
His MMA journey officially began when he joined MMA promotion Matrix Fight Night (MFN) in India. He made his pro-MMA debut on June 29, 2019, against Sanjeet Budhwar. He won the match via a unanimous decision.
Jubli went on to fight four more times in MFN and he won all four (two unanimous decisions, one submission, one TKO). Jubli’s fantastic work was recognized as he took part in the Road To UFC competition.
He was part of Season 1 where top Asian MMA contenders had an opportunity to earn a UFC contract. He won the Lightweight tournament after defeating Indonesian fighter Jeka Saragih in the final via a TKO on UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Spivak in February 2023.
On October 21, 2023, Jubli fought for the second time in the UFC. He fought in the preliminary card of UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi. However, Jubli received a reality check of the competition in the promotion as he lost via KO in the third round against Mike Breeden.
