Things have been starting to heat up in the French Open as we go on to witness the business end of the tournament.
So far the Quarterfinals have been very interesting with Rafael Nadal and Alexander Zverev progressing on to the semifinals after defeating Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz respectively.
In another quarterfinals match, things got a bit heated up between Holger Rune and Casper Ruud after they both fought it out in an extremely closely poised match which was eventually won by Casper Ruud.
With this win, Rudd became the first Norwegian man to reach the Grand Slam semi-finals after defeating Rune by a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6(7/2) and 6-3.
Rune was looking seemingly frustrated during and after the match as he was repeatedly grimacing and shouting at himself and the umpire as tensions rose between both of these tennis stars. Both of these tennis players felt disrespected by each other’s actions.
Holger Rune asked to grow up by Casper Rudd
Things seemingly got a bit heated up during the match. Holger Rune was asked to grow up by Casper Rudd and Holger later asked Casper Rudd to show some respect. The Danish teenager seemed to even ask his own mother to leave the stadium in the heat of the moment.
Rune seemed to shout towards the player’s box ‘leave, leave, leave’ after which his mother left the player’s box. In the post-match conference, Dane stated,
“Rudd so unsportsmanlike during the match and talked to me over and over again”.
“I didn’t want to give him a hug after the match. He got a high-five and then I just had to get away from him”
Rune also did not have pleasant things to say about Casper Rudd, he stated,
“He just went straight up to me and shouted “YEEEESSSS” right up in my face,”
“You can cheer on the court all you want and be happy. I do that myself when I win. But that’s such bad style. Have some respect”
Rudd’s coach who is also his father dismissed this claim of Rune as a pure lie. He claimed he does not know Holger personally but on the TV it can seem that there can be a lot of drama sometimes done by him.
His father went on to say that this behaviour by Rune is excusable since he is young and new but if he wants to be on the big stage then he needs to grow up a bit.
Holger Rune had knocked out Stefanos Tsitsipas to become the first Danish man to reach the last eight in the French Open.
