Novak Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final at Melbourne Park to add the tenth Australian Open feather to his prestigious cap. Moreover, it was later revealed that the Serb reached the indomitable peak with a considerable injury restricting him from playing his best game during the whole tournament.
However, there was another reason why Novak Djokovic’s 10th Australian Open win was quite painful. As the tournament concluded and the 36-year-old lifted the silverware, he revealed that it was really hard for him to stay away from his wife and children throughout the hardcourt Major.
The triumph was a huge thing for the Serb as he equaled Rafael Nadal’s record of 22 Grand Slam titles. Last year, Djokovic was deported from Australia and banned from participating in the US Open after refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccination.
Novak Djokovic talks about staying away from his family during his 22nd grand slam win
After the final victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas, the 22-time Grand Slam winner got emotional remembering his family. He said that he currently feels like he can be at the top level of the game and the main reason behind his motivation is the support of his close ones.
“Right now I have the motivation, I have support of the close ones, which is also something that is probably underestimated and not maybe talked about a lot, but it’s a key, especially as a father. Being absent from the children is not something that makes me very happy.”
Novak Djokovic on his kids: “Today, Stefan wanted to be with me through the whole routine, to see how it feels: warm up, gym, practice, the board game we always play, lunch. He was there the whole time. They are⁰my angels and they help me a lot to be better on and off the court” pic.twitter.com/8Dy7q7ouw9

Hence, being away from his family saddened the 36-year-old in his quest for his 22nd Grand Slam title. However, as the fans were worried about his retirement, he revealed that the fire inside him burns the strongest at this point of his career. Thus, he has a lot to play in order to complete his “professional goals and ambitions” before hanging up his boots.
Novak Djokovic’s wife and what does she do?
Novak Djokovic tied the knot with Jelena Djokovic in 2014 and since then, the couple has been happily married. She has been spotted on a number of occasions at her husband’s matches, supporting him. Interestingly, the two crossed paths for the first time when they were in high school.
For further studies, Jelena Djokovic went to Milan to study luxury brand management while the Serb was busy making a name in the world of tennis. Fortunately, the couple managed to stay in a long-distance relationship. Moreover, after some time, they moved to Monte Carlo where she started working in an Oil company.
Nevertheless, Novak Djokovic was not happy with the job as it was affecting their relationship negatively. Thus, Jelena ended up leaving her job and took the position of the National Director of their charity organization, the Novak Djokovic Foundation. The foundation works for disadvantaged children in Serbia by giving them access to early childhood education. Thus, she is a humanitarian.
