- There has been speculations about Emma Raducanu taking a break from social media.
The rise to the top in any sport requires time and undying passion. Athletes go through several tough experiences before coming out victorious. The sacrifices start at a young age and yield results many years later. It has been a similar story for Emma Raducanu as she has been making a courageous comeback to the tour after suffering wrist injuries.
Raducanu had even deleted her social media profiles while she was on tour. Last year, before the Indian Wells, the British player took a break from Instagram and WhatsApp. The reason was partly due to her success on the tour. It had drawn in negative comments and opinions due to her injuries on tour. But now Raducanu is not bothered by the comments, as she has zoned in on herself.
Emma Raducanu Indian Wells Press: “After Australian Open 2023 I deleted WhatsApp & Instagram from my phone, after that I lived under my little rock. The 2021 US Open winner was out of the tour for eight months. She had to undergo surgeries on her wrists and has been patiently dealing with recovery. Raducanu has learned how difficult it is to get back into shape and understands that the initial losses are just lessons for the future. She is back on tour and has already played two matches this year in Australia.
Will Emma Raducanu play in the 2024 Australian Open?
The 2024 Australian Open is set to start on January 14. The qualifiers will begin on January 8 as players battle for a place in the main draw. While Raducanu was among the qualifiers at first, she has now gained a direct entry into the main draw of the opening grand slam of the year. Raducanu had at first entered the qualifiers with a protected ranking.
The 20-year-old got lucky as Lauren Davis pulled out of the event due to a shoulder injury—the American’s departure paved the way for Raducanu. The former world No. 10 was struggling with serve in her first match in eight months. Raducanu hit six double faults in her victory against Elena Gabriela Ruse. In her second match, Raducanu faced much tougher competition.

Raducanu faced Elina Svitolina in the second match, and it was again a three-setter. Svitolina was down 1-5 in the opening set but took advantage of Raducanu’s rustiness. The Ukrainian was not given another chance in the whole match, and she went on to reach the finals in Auckland. Raducanu will hope to serve better and convert the crucial points at the Australian Open.
