Actress Brooke Shields has had her run-in with fame not only in connection to her appearances on the big screen but because she divorced her ex-husband Andre Agassi.
Eight-time Grand Slam champion Andre is one of the few tennis players who has earned the status of ‘iconic’ in the ATP Tour and, in 1999, sent a shockwave through the entire community when the news of his divorce was made public.
Grasping the moments which led to the couple’s divorce, Brooke recently recalled the former American professional’s “irrational” behavior after he witnessed her cameo in the popular sitcom show, ‘Friends’.
Shields in her cameo played the role of a character that stalked Joey (played by Matt Le Blanc) and Erika Ford, in the show’s Episode 12 of Season 2. In the episode, a scene involving a “crazy” and desperate Erika claimed Joey’s hands were that of a genius which arouses her to lick his fingers.
When the show aired, everyone was in awe of Brooke’s acting as it solidified the show’s character Ford’s “nut” traits but her husband Andre, who was seated in the audience when it was taped, did not side with that opinion and lost control over himself.
The American actress while revealing the details of that day mentioned that Agassi stormed out after watching the scene quoting “Andre was in the audience supporting me, and he stormed out. He said, “Everybody’s making fun of me. You made a fool of me by that behavior.” I’m, like, “It’s comedy! What is the matter with you?”
That, however, was not the end of it as Brooke further went on to highlight the reason behind his erratic and unruly behavior was because he was allegedly hooked on hardcore drugs.
Brooke Shields alleges Andre Agassi’s “crystal meth addiction” made him smash all his trophies
Shield continued to provide her side of the story and also mentioned that she found out that her then-husband Andre Agassi was addicted to crystal meth at that point in his esteemed career which subsequently explained his behavior.
She went on to say that after he stormed out watching her cameo he went home, and to her surprise, smashed all his trophies in bits.
“I learned later that he was addicted to crystal meth at that point so that irrational behavior I’m sure had something to do with that,” Shields said. “[He went home and] smashed all his trophies. Who wins for that? That’s just—don’t!” quoted Shields.
The 57-year-old also claimed that she dismissed Andre’s abusive actions in connection to him trying to grab her attention, which for her also “co-opted” emotionally.
