SUMMARY
- Boris and Kyrgios were involved in a vicious spat online.
- However, the duo agrees that a commentary stint together would draw viewers.
Former German tennis player Boris Becker has always been a bit of a controversial figure. He recently found himself in yet another controversy, this time with another polarizing figure, Nick Kyrgios. However, it looks like Boris is ready to bury the hatchet and turn over a new leaf ahead of the Australian Open.
Becker and Kyrgios were involved in a massive war of words as they traded insults on social media. They kept at it throughout December before things cooled off between them. And now, a mere few weeks later, Kyrgios and Becker will be part of a commentary team, albeit continents apart.
Nick was sidelined for the entirety of 2023 due to a spate of unfortunate injuries. He was never too far from the tennis courts, though, and even made his commentary debut at the ATP Finals. Kyrgios caused a bit of a stir when he announced he would skip the Australian Open this year too. And now, he is the latest player to join Eurosport, the official broadcaster, as a pundit at the first Grand Slam of the year.

Following the announcement, Boris stated that he would have loved to do commentary with Kyrgios. He felt that it would draw more viewers than a tennis match. Unfortunately, it is unlikely to happen in Melbourne since Boris will be with the Eurosport German team out of Munich.
Kyrgios agreed with Boris’ statements too. “For the sport and for Eurosport, I actually think it’s really good because I think it will create a bit of tension there and people will tune in,” he said (via Tennis-Infinity).
Boris Becker is trying to turn his life around after a stint in jail. He teamed up with the rising star Holger Rune, and they immediately clicked. However, he has left the young Dane to fend for himself in Australia this time.
Why isn’t Boris Becker joining Holger Rune at the Australian Open?
Holger had an average season in 2023. He started off well, but his form tapered off towards the middle. Rune brought on Boris, and the results were immediate. Now, the Dane is set to switch his team a little bit again.
Becker will not be accompanying Rune in Australia. According to reports, Roger Federer’s former coach, Severin Luthi, will join him down under.

Holger’s mother, Aneke Rune, confirmed that Boris will indeed not be joining her son in Melbourne. The reason behind it is simple: Luthi needs a few tournaments alone with Holger, the way Boris did last season. Moreover, she added that Holger and Boris will not attend all tournaments together.
Holger Rune has started to flourish under the tutelage of Boris Becker and Severin Luthi. He came close to winning the Brisbane International, too. Rune will hope to make a deep run at the Australian Open next.
