The Chinese Former World Number 1 in the Doubles Category, Peng Shuai recently in an interview with the French newspaper L’Equipe which basically specialises in sports interview finally broke her silence and provided an update on her professional return back to the tennis court.
Peng Shuai was not much optimistic about her future in professional tennis since she indirectly confirmed her retirement from the sport in the light of her bad Physique and also the number of surgeries she was forced to do considering the number of injuries she has sustained.
With regards to this, she said,
“Considering my age, my multiple surgeries and the pandemic that forced me to quit for so long, I think it will be very difficult to regain my physical level,”
Peng Shuai Retracts her Earlier Statements
Earlier in November, Peng Shuai had posted an extremely lengthy post up on Weibo, which is basically a twitter-like application for Chinese people under the regulation of the government over there.
She had accused Zhang Gaoli who is a powerful figure in the Chinese government of sexually assaulting her. The post was later then taken down. She later said that the Weibo post sparked a huge misunderstanding and people implied the post in a wrong way.
The Chief of the IOC did not confirm on being asked if he felt that the statements given by Peng Shuai were indeed true and he believed them to the fullest. She said,
“Sexual assault? I never said that anyone made me submit to a sexual assault,”
“Why? Because I wanted to,” she said in the context of the post being deleted on Weibo
“I was to say first of all that emotions, sport and politics are three clearly separate things,”
“My romantic problems, my private life, should not be mixed with sport and politics.”
In the context of how her life has been after she posted the controversial thread up on Weibo, she said,
“It is as it should be: Nothing special.”
