After his exceptional win at the Australian Open 2022 with overcoming his foot injury, Rafael ‘s uncle Toni Nadal talks about the situation before surgery.
In an interview with Urbana Play, Rafael’s uncle and former long time coach, Toni Nadal shared the situation around the Spaniard’s foot surgery which he had in September last year.
The Spanish tennis coach Toni Nadal shared how Rafael clinched a historic win at the Grand Slam, despite being on crutches just a few months ago. Uncle Toni spoke about the Spanish player having much issues with his foot which recurred.
Toni described the problems with Rafael Nadal ‘s foot as ‘a problem that does not go away.’ Senior Nadal added that the doctors who treated the World No. 5 opined that Rafael for ‘practically finished’ with regards to his professional career.
Uncle Toni shared the time back in 2005, when the doctors stated that Nadal could not possibly play at the highest level after an injury he had sustained. Toni described how insulting it was for him and his team to hear doctors say such a thing. Given how to date, Rafael Nadal goes on getting better at every tennis tournament playing all the intense matches.
Furthermore, Coach Toni Nadal stated how Rafa turned himself into one of the greatest in the tennis world. Toni shared a quote- “Talent is forged and built (during) calm, but it requires the storm to be achieved.” He linked this quote to the life of the Spaniard.

Remembering the week where Nadal left for the Australian Open tour, he shared how me decided it three days back. Toni Nadal said how Rafael called the former’s son to hit a few balls, days before leaving for the tournament.
During training, that week, Rafa had told him- “‘I don’t know if I’m going to go or not because at the moment I’m not in condition for an Australian Open.”
However, the next day, Rafa cheered up and decided that he would go on the tour. Toni Nadal describes it was more of the 35 year old’s excitement of competing.
Nadal had claimed about 14 Grand Slams under the coaching of his uncle Toni Nadal, before parting ways in 2017.
