The tennis tour is known for its scheduling of events throughout the year. Players travel worldwide for over 11 months and only get a few weeks of rest in a season. This season saw four of the five players compete in more than 70 matches. Novak Djokovic only played 63 matches this year and only lost seven. Although he played fewer matches, Djokovic won seven season-leading titles.
The Serbian has been focusing on playing the selected events in a season. Djokovic has been now following the same mindset as Serena Williams. Serena started her grand slam mindset on the tour a few years back. She chose to play in selected events but won most of them. Now, this mindset has been used by Djokovic. He only played in 8 events outside the grand slams.
The world No.1 also played at the Davis Cup and provided crucial points for Serbia. Djokovic’s new mindset has paid off as he won three grand slam titles and finished runner-up at Wimbledon. He overtook Serena’s record of 23 grand slam titles. Djokovic is now one grand slam away from being the first player in the sport’s history to win 25 championships.
Novak Djokovic set to overtake Grand Slam tally of Serena Williams
The 2024 season will see Djokovic setting his sights on multiple grand slam records. He will be the favorite to lift the title in Australia. The 36-year-old has 361 wins across all the grand slams. Djokovic is now only six wins away from beating Serena’s record at Grand Slams. The former American player had won 367 matches in the majors. Serena had only lost 56 matches at the majors.
Roger Federer leads the way among grand slam matches won in the ATP tour. He had won 369 matches while losing 60 matches. Djokovic has the chance to lead the grand slam wins by the end of next year. The ten-time Australian Open champion won 27 matches this year at the majors while losing just one match. Djokovic is poised to break several records on tour next season.

The 2024 Australian Open will see Djokovic aiming to win the title for a record 11th time. He can be the second player after Rafael Nadal to win more than 10 titles at a single grand slam event. Nadal holds the record for 14 French Open titles, but with Djokovic still playing, there is no assurance on how long it can last. Fans can hope that Djokovic continues his present from throughout next year.
