On a raising trend of athletes and other celebrities pointing the importance of mental health in the life, Serena Williams and Prince Harry join the list of stars who shared their take on self- care.
Appearing for the first time to the eyes of media in this year, Prince Harry got together with a longtime friend of his and wife Meghan Markle’s, Serena Williams.
Serena and Harry joined a virtual event alongside BetterUp CEO Alexi Robichaux on Thursday this week. The two pals were to speak about cultivating the power of mental fitness through commitment to inner work.
“Mental fitness is the pinnacle, is what you’re aiming for. And the road towards that, it can be really bumpy. It’s called inner work for a reason. And I think it immediately might put some people off going more work. It’s like right. But, the outer work becomes so much easier once you get to grips of the inner work,” the Duke of Sussex Harry elucidated during the event.
Admitting his burnout experience at certain occasions, the 37-year-old motivated the viewers to prioritize and focus on own well- being.
Speaking about his own way of self- care, Prince Harry added- “Okay, one of the kids has gone to school, the other one’s taking a nap. There’s a break in our program. It’s like, right, it’s either for workout, take the dog for a walk, get out in nature. Maybe, meditate.”
The Duke went on to say that he realizes how tough it can be, how self- care drops away in between the happenings of life. He further said that he was ‘happy to admit it’ being a husband and a father.
American tennis player Serena Williams too, shared her take on mental-health and self-care
On the other, 23 times Grand Slam champion Serena Williams, revealed the significance of mental fitness in an athlete’s life, such as hers, as well.
Serena stated- “There was definitely a time I didn’t have boundaries. And I think boundaries are so important to have, in particular for a professional athlete that is trying to reach goals and to win. Because if you don’t have those boundaries, you’re not going to reach what you want to do.”
Talking about her friendship with Prince Harry, Serena said she has long conversations about such subjects, like mental-health with him. “I know I joke a lot, but Harry’s actually, one of my coaches whenever I see him, he’s always solving all my life’s problems.” shared the 40-year-old during the interview.
The two friends have been supporting each other regarding the mental-health and Serena admitted to have obtained a lot of help from Harry.
