A survey was conducted among non-professional tennis in the United States recently. The results of the survey were so bizarre, that it drew the attention of Nick Kyrgios. The Australian was not the only player to be surprised by it though. Andy Roddick could not believe the results either.
This survey was conducted by Research Without Barriers. The aim of this survey was to quantify the number of non-professional players and their blind optimism.
2403 players were questioned across the US as a part of the survey. A popular tennis journalist, Jon Wertheim, shared a part of the results on social media.
American supreme self-belief, tennis version… pic.twitter.com/9j8QEYkm4d

The results show that an astounding 71% of Americans think they can defeat a professional. 71% of women felt they could achieve this. Around 82% of players between the ages of 18-24 were confident they could take a game off a playing professional.
The results were so wild that Roddick was in disbelief at what he was seeing. He commented that the results were “insane.” Roddick also added, “I honestly question if I could win a game against a top pro now. I also assume I’m better than most club players :)”
I would lose 6-0, 6-0 to Novak right now. I doubt my neighbor Bill would do better

This post caught Nick Kyrgios’ eye as well, who poked fun at these results.

Both Roddick and Kyrgios’ comments sum up the general feelings towards the survey. The blind optimism of amateurs really is laughable.
What did Serena Williams’ former coach say about Nick Kyrgios?
Serena Williams’ former coach Rick Macci had high praises for Kyrgios. Macci says that Kyrgios’ Wimbledon run of 2022 was not a case of “one-hit wonder.”
Kyrgios was in good form throughout 2022. He made it to his first-ever Grand Slam finals, where he eventually lost to Novak Djokovic in four sets.
“I don’t think it was a one-hit-wonder. I think what you saw when he did that at Wimbledon, then followed up with Washington and then quarters US Open, I think you saw his real ability. He’s an artist, he’s a performer,” said Macci (via Tennis-Infinity).
His good run of form continued, and Kyrgios won his first title in three years, winning in Washington. He defeated top-ranked players throughout tournaments, showing his skills.
2023 has been the polar opposite for Kyrgios. He played only one match, which he lost against Wu Yibing. Injuries have derailed Kyrgios’ career, but he will hope to make a comeback soon.
