Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard took a sly dig at Simona Halep on social media today. Halep, the former Wimbledon champion, has just been handed a 4-year ban on two counts of doping. While the tennis world reels from this news, fans have lambasted Bouchard for her unsavory tweet.
Since the news of Simona’s suspension broke, her peers have aimed thinly veiled jibes at Halep. Most notable of them would be Serena Williams, who posted a not-so-cryptic tweet.
Bouchard is the latest player to pass a snide remark aimed at Halep. The Canadian took to X (formerly Twitter), to state that she had been advised not to tweet today.

Bouchard’s latest tweet can be tied to her previous tweet about Dayana Yastremska. Yastremska was banned for doping in 2021, but six months later all charges were cleared. When the two locked horns at the Madrid Open, Bouchard had defeated Dayana. She later tweeted, “There’s something about playing dopers in Madrid.” Eugenie deleted the tweet after facing severe backlash.
Bouchard and Halep are not on the friendliest of terms, and Halep has previously revealed the pair do not speak. “She’s different, I can say. I cannot judge her for being this, I cannot admire her for being this. I have nothing to say about her person,” said Halep (via Daily Express).
