Holger Rune has started the 2024 season with consistent performances on the tour. He has not won any titles yet but has reached the semifinals twice and the finals once in the first two months of the year. Rune was last seen at the Mexican Open in Acapulco. After his loss in the semifinals, Rune’s mother shared brutal messages she received from a fan.
Rune had lost in the semifinals of the Mexican Open. His mother, Aneke Rune, was at the receiving end of a death threat from a fan. Aneka shared the person’s email address and posted a story on Instagram with a screenshot of the mail. She also said it was illegal to send death threats. There have been many cases like Aneka’s where players receive death threats for their performances.
😡 Wow, this was an email that Holger Rune’s mother, Aneke, received after his loss to Casper Ruud in Acapulco.
Absolutely DISGUSTING, this person isn’t a tennis fan, they’re just clearly obsessed with money, and have no morals. Players and their teams get messages like this… pic.twitter.com/SCN4q3VLkO

Although things have been going tough for Rune off the court, Aneka has remained supportive of her son. The world No. 7 recently chose to bring back his coach, Patrick Mouratoglou. He was earlier with Boris Becker, but the partnership ended in a few months. Rune’s mother posted a story on Instagram saying that the target now is to be world No.1.
Aneke Rune talks about Holger Rune and his image on the tour
Rune is often described as the next-generation star on the ATP tour. His on-court talent has been ranked one of the best on tour. But there has been a negative side to it, too. Aneke mentioned how youngsters should not hesitate to be themselves in front of the media. She said it comes at a cost, but players cannot please everybody.
Aneke can be seen supporting her son during the matches. When asked about his image on the tour, she said, “I always answer my son’s questions with complete honesty. It’s easy to be honest or tell uncomfortable truths as a mother because we both know he can’t be mad at me forever.” Aneke talked about how youngsters are prone to committing mistakes, which is completely natural.
Holger Rune’s mom, Aneke, says pretending to be perfect at 20 years old gives the wrong picture to other young people:
“I think it’s important for younger ones that someone dares to be themselves. And it costs something, it does. It comes with a cost because you cannot please… pic.twitter.com/SF646AtYDc

His mother and Mouratoglou will guide the 20-year-old as they will work together to achieve the goals on the tour.
