Holger Rune has finally returned to his old form at a much-needed time of the season. He did not have a two-match winning streak for three months on tour until the Basel Open. Rune reached the semifinals, where he lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime. There has been a drastic change in Rune since the arrival of Boris Becker in his team. The coaching at the end of the season initially seemed like an unwise decision.
Rune’s mother mentioned “ego clashes” between his former coaches. The young player decided to try out what would eventually fit him. He said, “You cannot have me (with) one opinion, he’s another opinion, you have to go in the same direction and that’s what we’re doing.” The coaching change has now had a positive impact on Rune.
A BORIS BECKER effect, yet?

Becker had earlier coached Novak Djokovic on the tour and had a successful run with him. After his coaching stint, the German faced legal troubles for illegally transferring money and hiding assets during bankruptcy. He has even been banned from coming to the UK next season. But now, with his sentence served, Becker will focus on sustaining his partnership with Rune, who is currently playing at the Paris Masters.
Can Holger Rune qualify for Nitto ATP finals?
The Paris Masters will decide the final few slots for the Nitto ATP Finals. Currently, Rune and Hubert Hurkacz hope to seal their quota in the season-ending championship. Rune is in eighth place in terms of rankings with 3370 points. He is hoping to make his debut at the Nitto ATP Finals and needs to continue his excellent form at the Paris Masters.
The world No.7 has won his first match in Paris against Dominic Thiem. Rune will face Daniel Altmaier for a place in the quarterfinals. The Danish player is on an eight-match winning streak at the Paris Masters. Becker and Rune’s mother have been watching his matches in Paris. They have been cheering him on, which has worked wonders at the end of the season.
