It was a clash of the heavyweights yesterday as Manchester United faced Liverpool in the Premier League. One of the most iconic fixtures in English soccer history, Liverpool missed out on a chance to go top of the league. United managed to hold Liverpool to a scrappy draw courtesy of some solid defending. However, needless to mention, a Northwest derby always has some controversies.
Heading into the fixture, Liverpool had a golden chance to cement their position at the top of the Premier League. Jurgen Klopp’s men faced a lackluster United at Anfield who were reeling from their recent early European exit. However, Erik ten Hag’s men showed great resilience and managed to nullify Liverpool’s attacking trident of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Luis Diaz.

Despite having the lion’s share of possession and 34 shots, Liverpool didn’t manage to get the ball into the back of the net. For United, there was some extra motivation; the Red Devils were humbled 7-0 by Liverpool at Anfield in the previous season. However, despite a commanding display from referee Michael Oliver, United left-back Diogo Dalot’s red card has generated some controversy.

Michael Oliver gave Diogo Dalot his marching orders in the dying seconds of the game for showing dissent. Interestingly, the gap between Dalot’s first and second yellow card of the match was hardly ten seconds. Despite this incident, Erik ten Hag would be satisfied with yesterday’s result. United is currently seventh in the league with nine wins, seven defeats, and one draw.
Soccer fans point out Darwin Nunez’s dissent after Diogo Dalot’s red card
Meanwhile, the soccer fans were quick to point out the discrepancy in Michael Oliver’s decision to send off Diogo Dalot. In the first half, Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez was cautioned for a tackle on United defender Johnny Evans.
Darwin Nunez No Red Card ?
Diogo Dalot Red Card ?
Michael Oliver with another shocker, he’s done the same to Martinelli before. That Was Unproffessional, he should be sent to championship league.Amrabat |Varane |Antony |Onana |Man Utd |Kasarani |Arsenal |Sam Gituku pic.twitter.com/ubRrAb6EKd

Frustrated by the referee’s whistle, Nunez even proceeded to kick away the ball which deservingly got him a yellow card. Nunez, however, went a step further and decided to sarcastically clap at the official’s decision. This has led to fans questioning why Nunez wasn’t given a second yellow for insulting the referee.
Reacting to the incident, one fan even wrote, “Darwin Nunez complained about his yellow, why was he not sent off as well“? Despite the controversy about Dalot’s sending-off, it’s worth mentioning that Michael Oliver excellently managed yesterday’s game.
