Erling Haaland is currently one of the best soccer stars in the world. Haaland has been terrorizing the Premier League goalkeepers in his debut season. Although there were critics who questioned Haaland’s ability after his move from the Bundesliga, he has managed to shut them up for good. Since joining Manchester City, Haaland has already etched himself in the record books of the Premier League.

Recently, Erling Haaland became the player with the most goals in a single season in the Premier League. He broke Alan Shearer’s 28-years-held record by scoring his record 35th goal in the league. Moreover, Haaland is already leading Manchester City’s quest for their 7th Premier League title. He is also the leading scorer in the Champions League this season as City aims to win its maiden Champions League title.

Where are Haaland’s parents from? Nationality and Ethnicity

Erling Haaland was born on July 21, 2000, to parents Alfie Haaland and Gry Marita Braut. Both Alfie and Gry Marita are Norwegian by birth and they belong to white ethnicity. Although Norwegian by nationality, Haaland was raised in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Thus, Haaland could have played for England had he not chosen to represent Norway instead.

Alf-Inge Rasdal Håland, popularly known as Alfie Haaland, is a former soccer player. Alfie has played for teams like Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, Bryne FK, and Rosseland BK. He has also played for his son’s current club, Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Erling Haaland’s mother, Gry Marita Braut, is also an accomplished athlete. She previously participated in and won the national heptathlon title in Norway.

Father of Erling Haaland, Alfie, played for Manchester City

Playing for Manchester City is in the genes of the Haaland family. Erling Haaland left Borussia Dortmund to join Manchester City last year. Since then, Haaland has become the apple of the eye for Cityzens. Alfie Haaland joined left Leeds United for Manchester City back in 2000. Although Alfie didn’t have a remarkable time at City, he was involved in a controversial incident with former Manchester United star Roy Keane.

In April 2001, during a match against Manchester United, Alfie Haaland was violently tackled by Roy Keane. The Manchester United captain struck Alfie’s knee with his studs which left the Norwegian with a career-threatening injury. Following the incident, Keane was served with a three-match ban and was fined around $6,500. However, the reason for Keane’s tackle dates back to four years ago when Alfie Haaland was playing for Leeds.

Back in 1997, Alfie had committed a similar foul on Roy Keane which left the Irish star with a ruptured cruciate ligament. Moreover, after the tackle, Alfie had stood over Keane and accused him of feigning an injury. This has gone down as one of the most iconic moments in the history of soccer, similar to when boxing legend Muhammad Ali stood over Sonny Liston after Ali’s “phantom punch.“

Talking about his revenge much later in his autobiography, Keane wrote, “I’d waited long enough. “I f***ing hit him hard. The ball was there (I think). Take that you c***.” In the aftermath of Keane’s autobiography, Alfie reportedly wanted to pursue legal action against Keane for ending his career with the injury. However, Alfie later clarified that Keane’s tackle was indeed not the reason for his career coming to an end.

Where is Erling Haaland’s mother now?

Alfie Haaland met Gry Marita Braut in the mid-1990s and they soon tied the knot. At that time, Alfie was playing for the Premier League side Nottingham Forest. The couple soon gave birth to three children- Astor Haaland, Gabrielle Haaland, and their superstar son Erling Haaland. Astor, who is the eldest, is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Finance at the BI Norwegian Business School.

Gabrielle, Alfie and Gry’s second child and Erling Haaland’s sister, is married to the Norwegian soccer player Jan Gunnar Eide. They had their first child back in 2021. After being married to Gry Braut for some years, Alfie eventually separated from her. Currently, Gry Braut has kept a low profile and tends not to be much in the public eye. Meanwhile, Alfie Haaland is currently married to Anita Strømsvol and they have two daughters together.
