Cristiano Ronaldo is an icon and is known to everyone around the world which, makes it no wonder that the player is the most followed person on Instagram. But more than the player, it is his iconic celebration that has taken the world by storm.
In various sports, winning or victory has led several athletes to perform the famous ‘Siuuu’ celebration. The sound ‘Siuuu’ is also very famous.
It was first done by Ronaldo during his Real Madrid days; the celebration is now done by people all around the globe, and it has become so global that it is not just restricted to soccer anymore. NBA 2K has done something many fans wanted them to do, as they have enabled the option to perform the ‘Siuuu’ celebration in their brand new video game.

In a recent video posted by TikTok user Jumpman Germ, it can be seen that the famous ‘Siuuu’ celebration performed in an NBA game. Ronaldo fans were ecstatic by this new addition, as they expressed their delight by saying things like – “Famous Cr7 all over the world”, “The goat effect” and “Unreal Influence.”
It can be fair to say that celebrations have been a part of sports for a long time, but no other celebration has made such a huge impact as Ronaldo’s Siuuu has. However, there is no official confirmation about it being added to the NBA game.
How did Cristiano Ronaldo’s Siuuu celebration originate?
Soccer celebrations are a part of the game, and different players have their own celebrations, but none of them are as iconic as Cristiano Ronaldo’s Siuuu. Fans love the celebration and the sound Ronaldo makes, so much so that the Portuguese have been asked to do that multiple times on Instagram Live.
The word ‘Siuuu’ in Spanish means yes and it originated during a pre-season friendly match against English side Chelsea in 2013 in the USA. But he first screamed Siu during the Ballon d’Or ceremony in 2014 after winning it. Ronaldo said, “It seems to have grown into its global phenomenon – and I love when I see other players doing it, or people send me videos of people in other sports doing it or little kids doing it – it’s great”.

During the iconic celebration, he runs, pointing to his chest a few times, jumps, and then turns with his arms outstretched, before shouting the word ‘siuuuu!’ as he lands on the ground. The whole stadium shouts “siuuu” after Ronaldo scores a goal. It happened at Old Trafford on his return when he scored in his debut match.

Ronaldo said, “I started to say ‘si’, it’s like ‘yes’ when I was in Real Madrid. When we would win, everyone would say ‘siiiii’ and so I started to say it. I don’t know why, it was natural.” Several players like Marko Grujic, Dominik Szoboszlai, Rafael Leao, and many others have done the celebration.
Few celebrations have a cult status like the ‘Siuuu’. It has transcended soccer and has made its way into other sports as well. When Ronaldo went to Iran for a match, fans on the streets did the Siuuu celebration upon his arrival. This just goes to show how much of an iconic celebration it has now become.
