Mason Greenwood assumed he would return to the Manchester United squad after attempted rape and assault charges were dropped against him. However, that is far from the reality.
Manchester United is currently conducting an internal investigation against Mason Greenwood on his off-field conduct. The player has not been integrated into Manchester United’s first team since the charges dropped against him in February.

Mason Greenwood has reportedly told his friends that he does not expect to play for Manchester United again. The youngster is now expecting to continue his career outside of England.
The club had decided to investigate whether the player can return to the first team after charges were dropped in February. However, now it seems unlikely to happen as the player himself is ready to part ways with the English club.

Unfortunately, Greenwood was unable to shake off the accusations that were made against him. The accusations came to light after Harriet Robson posted on social media about the events that took place between November 2018 and October 2021. She claimed she suffered physical and sexual abuse at the hands of the player.
The 21-year-old was immediately suspended from all his club duties. Furthermore, he also lost all the endorsement deals including the deal with sportswear Nike.
The player was expected to stand trial last year but the case encountered problems with the sudden withdrawal of a key witness. Therefore, Crown Prosecution was eventually forced to drop their charges against him due to the lack of pieces of evidence. Manchester United released a statement regarding it after the matter.

The club statement read, “Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped. The club will now conduct its process before determining the next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”
The announcement, however, was made 12 weeks ago and United is yet to conclude. Furthermore, players from both men’s team and the women’s teams have opposed the prospect of Greenwood’s return to the team. Even United’s club sponsors want to cut ties with the player and keep no association with him.
Greenwood to resign his dream of ever playing for United again
A source close to the player has revealed, “Mason believes he’s finished at United. He’s sat at home kicking his heels and very frustrated. He wants to get back playing football but realizes his situation is very complicated and it’s his own doing”

Greenwood now seems to be resigned to the fact that he might never put on the Manchester United shirt again or be able to play under manager Erik ten Hag. However, it remains to be seen what the result will be from the investigation.
