Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag has finally commented on Mason Greenwood’s release. Mason Greenwood has been recently acquitted of all charges after he was arrested last year for r*pe and sexual assault. Although charges against Greenwood have been dropped, he does not automatically make his way back to the United squad.
The Crown Prosecution Service announced recently that charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped due to the “withdrawal of key witnesses.” A CPS spokesperson said, “We have a duty to keep cases under continuous review. In this case, a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case.“

While Greenwood has been relieved of his charges, Manchester United released a statement yesterday. The statement reads, “Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped. The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”
Most recently, Erik ten Hag was asked to comment on Greenwood’s situation during a pre-match press conference. As per Manchester Evening News, he said, “No. Nothing. I can add nothing, I refer to the statement of the club. As I said, at this moment, I can’t give a comment about the process.”

Greenwood, who has been suspended from the club since last year will be itching to make his return to the squad. ten Hag will also be delighted to have Greenwood back in the club as Manchester United reach the business end of their season.
Why was Mason Greenwood arrested?
Manchester United soccer star Mason Greenwood was arrested last year after he was charged with sexual assault and r*pe. In January 2022, Greenwood’s ex-girlfriend, Harriet Robson, released a series of horrific images on social media. The images that Harriet released to accuse Greenwood of sexual assault showed bruises and injuries on her body.
Soon after Harriet’s accusations, Greenwood was arrested by the CPS. Manchester United proceeded to suspend Greenwood from the club but did not terminate his contract. However, Nike, Greenwood’s sponsor, did terminate their contract with the Manchester United star. Electronic Arts (EA) also announced the removal of Greenwood from its FIFA 22 game.

Greenwood, who was arrested by the CPS in February 2022, was later let out on bail. In his bail contract, Greenwood was told not to contact the victim, Harriet, at any point during the ongoing case. However, in October last year, Greenwood was later arrested again for breach after he allegedly tried to contact Harriet during the course of the case. After a few days, Greenwood was granted bail on some specific grounds.
