Latin musician, Maluma, made some noteworthy comments in his latest appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. The Latin Grammy winner acknowledged that he might be better than Lionel Messi if the duo exchanged places.
Seth Meyers talked to Maluma about his soccer skills, revealing that the Latin musician can hold his own on a soccer field. Meyers added by stating that the singer could have gone down the soccer path if the music scene didn’t work out. Maluma agreed with his skills but pushed back on his soccer career, stating, “Thank god, I didn’t do it”.
Meyers moved on from it by bringing back the friendship between Maluma and Inter Miami‘s superstar, Lionel Messi. Meyers congratulated Maluma on Messi’s move to Miami, which is where the Latin musician currently resides. The Late Night host went on to state a noteworthy statement: “I bet you [Maluma] are better at soccer than he [Messi] is at singing. Right”?
Maluma initially laughed off the suggestion but went on to agree with Meyers. He explained: “He [Messi] is the best soccer player, when you are great doing one thing, I don’t think you are that great doing another thing.” The statement might bite Maluma back if Lionel Messi pounced on the challenge by taking the mic from him and giving him the Inter Miami jersey.
Maluma released a song and video dedicated to Lionel Messi
Even if Maluma stepped into the DRV PNK Stadium wearing the Inter Miami jersey, it wouldn’t be the first time. Back in August 2023, the Latin musician released a new song, ‘Trofeo,’ in which Lionel Messi made a special appearance with the Leagues Cup trophy.
Maluma announced in the promotion of the song and the video that this song was his tribute to Lionel Messi. In the video, the singer walked on the field of DRV PNK Stadium, where Messi was waiting for him in the center circle. The duo greeted each other, and Messi presented the Leagues Cup to the singer and exchanged hugs. The video has more than five million views on YouTube and has been loved by fans around the world.
The Latin Grammy winner has always tried to incorporate his love for soccer into his music. His two worlds collided when he got to release an official Arab-Latin anthem for the 2022 World Cup, titled ‘Tukoh Taka’ with a collaboration with American rapper, Nicki Minaj.
Maluma has been the biggest advocate of Colombian soccer and was vocal about the Colombian Women’s team in the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup. The combination of Latin fans and soccer fans gives the musician two different bases to whom he can cater, which adds to the overall value of the superstar.
