There are not many former players like Jamie Carragher who relish in their role as a soccer pundit. The Liverpool legend showed another evidence of his prowess when he responded to Pep Guardiola’s recent comments.
Pep Guardiola came gunning for Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville, Micah Richards, and Jamie Carragher when he sat down for his press conference ahead of their clash against Aston Villa. The Manchester City boss was asked about his team’s recent run of form where they have drawn three games back-to-back against Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham.
Guardiola was quick to back the team with a bold prediction: “If you ask me today, my feeling is that we’re going to win the Premier League. If we play at the levels that we showed against Liverpool and Tottenham, we’re going to do it again – knowing that it is not easy of course.”

Additionally, Guardiola also addressed the recent remarks by Gary Neville, who called Manchester City complacent in the last three fixtures. The treble-winner manager responded by pointing at the trophy cabinets of three Sky Sports pundits.
Guardiola added: “He [Neville] knows how difficult it is, otherwise Gary Neville have won four Premier Leagues in the best period of Man United. He didn’t do it, you know, but not even him. Not even Jamie Carragher, of course, he didn’t win it once. But Micah Richards, have not won four Premier League in a row. So when that happened. Never ever, no team in England.”
Among these three, Neville has the best record in England due to his stint with Manchester United but as pointed out he didn’t win four Premier Leagues in a row. The biggest shot went towards Jamie Carragher, who failed to win a single Premier League with Liverpool, however, Carragher came back strong.
Jamie Carragher responds to Pep Guardiola
Carragher went on ‘X’ to respond to Guardiola. He reposted the report of the remarks from the Telegraph and commented: “I think I’d have probably won one if Liverpool were owned by a nation-state, and pushed the rules so far that the PL charged us 115 times. I was actually praising Pep’s team after the game on Sunday.”

The beloved pundit clapped back by bringing the ownership of Manchester City into focus. Manchester City is owned by the City Football Group, which is a holding company in which the majority stake is owned by Abu Dhabi United Group, backed by Abu Dhabi’s Royal family.
Carragher hinted that Manchester City and Pep Guardiola’s recent dominance in the Premier League can be credited to the financial strength of the Royal family. He further went on to point out Manchester City’s current issues with financial fair play rules, due to which the Premier League has hit them with 115 charges.
Carragher brought these points into the picture to play down the success of Manchester City under Pep Guardiola. The former England international won this round of back and forth as per the soccer fans on social media. It would be interesting to see if Guardiola comes back to stand his ground against Jamie Carragher.
