The European Super League has finally received the legal recognition it had been fighting for over 2 years. The European Court of Justice has ended the monopoly of UEFA on European football. The judgment has given a potential green light to the commencement of ESL. This has caused huge turmoil in the European soccer scene and jeopardized the future of Europe’s Premier European competition, the Champions League.

A22 Sports Management is a company that assists and sponsors the creation of the European Super League. Bernd Reichart, the CEO of the company has laid his plans to start the controversial league as early as 2025. The CEO believes that the league with its revamped structure would be inclusive towards clubs of the highest caliber.
The German business said this in a statement by A22 Sports Management (via Sportstar): “This vision is based on extensive consultation with a wide range of football stakeholders across Europe and built on our core principles including participation based on sporting merit (and) no permanent members.

“Now that clubs can determine their own future at European level, we look forward to further engagement with a broad set of football stakeholders to achieve the objective of all great sporting competitions.”
Despite many clubs across Europe, rejecting the newly formed League. Bernd Reichart is hopeful that ESL will be able to change the landscape of European soccer. This poses a heavy threat to the future of the UEFA Champions League. If Reichart is to be believed the 2024/25 edition of the UCL would be the last time that the competition would be played.
The 24/25 UCL would be historic anyway as the iconic structure of the competition would be changed altogether. Instead, a single table including 36 different teams would be played. The structure though is very similar to the one proposed by the ESL.
UEFA President mocks the European Super League
Aleksander Ceferin, the President of UEFA has criticized the formation of the new league. Ceferin suggested that the breakaway clubs should not count the ECJ’s verdict as a victory. Till now, only FC Barcelona and Real Madrid look like the only participant clubs in the competition. While Napoli has also shown interest.
The UEFA President said this in a press conference (via The Telegraph): “It’s close to Christmas, they saw a box under the tree and started to celebrate, but then when they opened the box they realized there was not much inside”.
🚨 UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin on the Super League: “We will not try to stop them. They can create whatever they want”.
“I hope they start their top competition as soon as possible… with two clubs”.

The 56-year-old sarcastically wished Real Madrid and Barca good luck, following European clubs’ rejection of the ESL. Ceferin has insisted that soccer is not for sale. The future of European football is thus in a delirium.
