The Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho has been known for his quotes that he says from time to time in the media. Be it before the match or after the match presentation, Mourinho doesn’t fail to entertain his fans. After getting sacked by Tottenham in April 2021, Mourinho took on the role of managing the Italian club, A.S. Roma.
Jose Mourinho came to Roma with the aim of winning them a trophy. He signed quite a few players in his first transfer window. These were some significant signings that included Portuguese goalkeeper Rui Patricio and English striker Tammy Abraham. He was there to make a change, and he did. He won Roma’s first trophy after 11 years, which was the Europa Conference League.

Mourinho did not calm down after winning a trophy. He was there for the big prize and that was now the Europa League. Roma qualified for the Europa League Final as well by beating Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 on Aggregate. It looked more possible than ever that Mourinho and his team were gonna win consecutive UEFA European Championships.
But there was a twist in the tale. The referee of the match, Anthony Taylor, made some questionable decisions throughout the match that made Mourinho angry. Mourinho went so far as to question the credibility of the referee and called Anthony Taylor out. He accused Anthony Taylor of refereeing “like a Spaniard“, describing some of his decisions as a scandal.

Mourinho even waited in the parking lot after the end of the match to confront Anthony Taylor. But luckily, things did not escalate, and both of them went home safely after the match.
Jose Mourinho gives his verdict again on the Europa League Final
Recently, the Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano posted a tweet in which Mourinho had something to say related to the Europa League final. Mourinho said, “I will keep saying that until my final day as a manager — we did not lose the Europa League final against Sevilla… We did NOT lose that final in Budapest and I won’t change my mind”.
Previously in an interview with Sky Italia, he was asked about the game and he replied by saying, “If I say what I think I will get banned for ten games”.
Roma fans around the world can feel Mourinho’s frustration and anger. The match between Roma and Sevilla had some very bad decisions that were made by Anthony Taylor. In the 81st minute, there was a clear handball by Sevilla defender Fernando, but Taylor decided to rule out the appeals by saying that the player had his arm by his side when the ball struck him.

Taylor was scrutinized for the refereeing that he did in the final. Even UEFA stated that it was not happy with the performance of Anthony Taylor in the Europa League final. Taylor was even harassed by the Roma fans at the airport.
Mourinho has been in the limelight all his career. And this incident was not something that would surprise his fans around the world. A.S. Roma again looks to go up against Sheriff on Thursday, beginning their Europa League campaign for the season of 2023–24 under Jose Mourinho.
