On January 8, Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, led his team to a straightforward but unspectacular 2-0 victory over Wigan, sending them into the FA Cup’s fourth round. Diogo Dalot scored the first goal from the outer edge of the box, and Bruno Fernandes’ penalty kick in the second half secured victory.
But despite having plenty of opportunities, United was unable to capitalize on them; Rasmus Hojlund in particular was guilty of bad finishing, and Andre Onana had to make some vital saves. This 2023–24 season, Manchester United has been playing below expectations, and the supporters are becoming increasingly furious with the team’s weekly performances.

While serving as an ITV pundit, previous United captain Keane was not impressed with what he saw about his former team and also feels Erik will be sacked. When asked if Keane was able to observe the DNA Ten Hag had been trying to establish: “No, not really. I think that’s the problem with United, you know what you’re going to get when you turn up. The manager there mentions the ‘project’ – it probably means he’ll be gone in the next few months.”
It remains to be seen how Manchester United and their manager Erik ten Hag turn the tide of results in their favor this 2023-24 season. They were dealt with a lot of injuries in the first half of the season and will be looking to capitalize in the second half of the 2023-24 season with many of their important players coming back this January.
Roy Keane opens up on Manchester United and Erik ten Hag
After losing yet another away game, Roy Keane thinks Manchester United is “in trouble”. United’s fifth away defeat of the season across all competitions came from the 1-0 setback at Newcastle. Additionally, it indicates that Erik ten Hag, the manager, has yet to secure a victory in a Premier League away game against a team ranked ninth or above.

Upon viewing Ten Hag’s away results against the top nine teams in the Premier League, former United captain Keane spoke with Sky Sports: “That looks ugly. It’s the amount of goals – six at City, seven at Liverpool, and four at Brentford. “It’s not good, it’s not good. They’re obviously in a tough place and the manager’s under pressure.
Roy Keane’s words regarding Erik ten Hag and Manchester United were taken with a pinch of salt by the United fans as they hope to see their new manager succeed instead of getting sacked. It remains to be seen now how Manchester United perform in the remainder of the 2023-24 season as a lot of pressure will be on its players to deliver top performances week in and week out.
