SUMMARY
- Manchester United beat Wigan 2-0 in the FA Cup recently.
- Alejandro Garnacho was spotted representing Cristiano Ronaldo once again.
Alejandro Garnacho has exploded onto the scene in the last couple of years and has made a name for himself at Manchester United. The youngster seems to have convinced Erik ten Hag that he has what it takes to start for the Red Devils regularly. He is a winger who plays out from mostly the left flank. The Argentine youngster has shown that he doesn’t shy away from taking on his defender and shooting from a distance as well.
It’s almost as if United fans have seen this before, in the great Cristiano Ronaldo. When the Portuguese legend moved to Old Trafford in 2003, he immediately became a fan favorite. He was a skillful winger who put on a show for millions and was truly one of a kind. And it certainly looks like Garnacho aims to follow in his idol’s footsteps.

Recently, during Manchester United‘s FA Cup 2-0 win against Wigan, Garnacho was spotted representing his role model once again. Cameras captured him wearing ‘CR7’ branded boxers. For some context, Ronaldo has a clothing line, where he produces mainly sportswear. Moreover, the player even cut onto his left foot from the edge of the box. This was certainly like watching Ronaldo’s second version for fans.

Alejandro Garnacho has certainly been taking fanboying to another level, but this is not the first time. The young player even scored a goal like his idol just over a few months ago.
Alejandro Garnacho urged to make a name for himself rather than following in Cristiano Ronaldo’s footsteps
The 19-year-old scored an absolute banger against Everton back in November 2023. Diogo Dalot made a cross into the box after receiving a pass from Marcus Rashford around the three-minute mark. But it looked like he didn’t judge his teammate’s position accurately and the pass went just past Garnacho. But the flashy winger pulled a magical overhead kick out of the bag from almost the edge of the box like it was nothing.
After finding the back of the net, Garnacho did Ronaldo’s iconic ‘Siuuu’ celebration that has taken the sporting world by storm as well. It certainly looks like he is Ronaldo’s biggest fan in soccer right now.
But the celebration didn’t go down too well with Ronaldo’s former rival, Arturo Vidal. He said to The Metro, “The only bad thing or what I didn’t understand is why he celebrates like Cristiano? He has to make his own name… It’s good that he is his idol, respect for that, but then he has to make his name. How are you going to celebrate a goal and remember it?”
Vidal believes that Garnacho should have celebrated the goal in a way that he expresses himself. The former Juventus midfielder claims that it is about time that he makes a name for himself. Many questioned Vidal’s statement, but Garnacho has not responded as of now. He even received a warning from Leandro Paredes. But it looks like he will continue to prefer CR7 over his Argentina captain Lionel Messi.
The player continues to get better but will have to remain consistent in developing himself. He is not the favorite to start at the left flank right now, especially with the likes of Rashford in the team. But given his commitment to continuous improvement, it may be soon that he cements his status on the starting lineup.
