Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster recently announced his retirement from soccer. Foster, who made his professional debut more than twenty years ago, has played for various clubs in his career. He has also had eight appearances for England and was included in the 2014 FIFA World Cup squad. However, in this article, we will take a look at Ben Foster’s wife.
Foster, who played for Watford from 2019–22, had received offers from Newcastle United. However, the ex-England star decided to reject the offer and announced his retirement. Foster returned to action in March this year, helping Wrexham achieve their promotion to the English Football League.
Currently, Ben Foster is looking to spend some quality time with his family. The former Wrexham goalkeeper has been married to his wife, Kate Foster, since 2018. However, the couple has been together for a long time. As per reports, Kate is a psychologist by profession. The pair has two children, and they live together in a house designed by Foster in a village called Tiddington in Warwickshire, England.
For Foster, his family is “super important.” He even announced his international retirement in 2011 during the qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup, which led to his clash with the then-England manager Claudio Ranieri. He said, “It was a very big decision. But family is a very important thing for me and it felt like I was missing out on them growing up.” Foster also explained that not being close to his young children was making him homesick.
Ben Foster fell out with Fabio Capello for his wife Kate
Family is very important for Foster and he left England training for the birth of their second child. During an interview, he added, “My wife was heavily pregnant with our second child Louis and I was away on international duty, we were down in London. And, she was ready to pop. She was literally good to go kinda thing and one morning she rung me and she was like, ‘Ben, I think I’m good to go kinda thing, I feel a bit.'”
Listening to that, Foster went up to Fabio Capello, and what happened afterward, did not sound pleasant. He continued, “I had to go speak to the manager and say like, ‘Listen, I think my wife’s going to labor.’ And even then he was like, I remember saying it to him, and if somebody came to you and said my wife is going into labor, you go, ‘Go, sweet, go.’ And straight away he kind of just went, ‘Well, we’ve got training in an hour.'”
After that, Capello begrudgingly let him leave the training and attend to his wife. However, the Italian coach wanted Ben to play the second half of the next friendly match. But, when the former England keeper returned for the match, Fabio did not put him on the field. Afterward, Foster finally had enough and decided to stop playing for England until Roy Hodgson took over.
