Before the World Cup break, there was always a question of whether Cristiano Ronaldo will start for United. However, no such questions were raised this time as Ronaldo is no longer part of the United team. He parted ways with the club just before the Qatar World Cup.
Despite his unceremonious exit, the club still paid a tribute to the Portuguese player via their matchday program, United Review. But, the tribute has been called short and unsatisfactory by many. On the other hand, United fans also created an insulting chant to show their disapproval of how CR7 handled the situation. They sang it out loud at Old Trafford during the Burnley clash.
What did Man United say about Ronaldo’s exit from the club
Ronaldo’s mention was made in the “Worth Knowing” feature of the United program. It was spread across pages six and seven.
Their statement read, “Cristiano Ronaldo left the club by mutual agreement last month. The Portuguese superstar scored 145 goals across two spells and 346 appearances and helped us win three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups, the Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup. Ronaldo was also crowned Ballon d’Or winner in 2008. In a statement on November 22, the club put on record its gratitude for Cristiano’s immense contribution and wished him and his family well for the future.”

After the club’s tribute, manager Erik ten Hag was questioned about it as well. The Dutch manager responded in his post-match conference, “I gave you all the opportunity, many of you were in Spain. We made the statement, we look to the future.”
Manchester United seems to have moved on from Ronaldo. They are also looking replacement for Cristiano during the upcoming January transfer window. However, it remains to be seen where the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will continue his soccer career next. Recent reports added that European clubs are not looking to bring him into their respective teams.

The 37-year-old, who bagged 145 goals and 64 assists across his two stints at the Manchester club, might be on his way to Saudi Arabia. He is expected to sign for Al-Nassr in the coming days. He has reportedly received a two-and-a-half-year deal worth over $200 million per season. United and Ronaldo mutually terminated the latter’s contract after his controversial interview with Piers Morgan.
