In terms of racking up titles and wins, Rafael Nadal seems to have the best calendar year. He not only won the French and the Australian grand slam title but also went on to get the No.2 rank on the ATP rankings.
However, it goes without saying that he suffered a lot of injuries in 2022 without which he could have won at least one more grand slam title. A lot of fans have noticed a peculiar thing about Nadal which is the disproportionate size of his arms.
A lot of the fans and analysers have seemed to notice that one of his hands is bigger than the other and also the way in which this would potentially affect his overall game.
How did the media react to Rafael Nadal’s opinion?
Nadal’s left hand is bigger than his right hand and hence he uses his left hand to serve by default in order to grant him an advantage. Rafa has also addressed this peculiarity a lot of times and feels that the reason a lot of people have noticed this since he used to play matches in a sleeveless outfit. He further said,
“This is funny, if you look at many other players they are probably fitter than me.
“The difference probably is that I was playing sleeveless. Now that I carry shirts with sleeves it doesn’t look that different.
“And also my left arm is much more developed than my right arm.”
He further said that the reason behind his left arm being bulkier than his right arm is because of the fact that he is a lefty and uses the arm more in the gym and the tennis court.
His playing with his left hand is of much more use since he would be able to hit the deep-cross court to a right-handers backhand would his opponent would find much less comfortable to encounter.
Nadal was not born with this in fact he is naturally a right-hander. His uncle and his former coach Toni Nadal was the one who made him change his dominant hand in order to cater for an advantage. Nadal is currently preparing to be match fit for the Australian Open.
