Ivan Ljubicic was one of the finest players from Croatia on the tennis circuit. He turned professional in 1998 and played until 2012. Ljubicic had the honor of playing against Roger Federer and then later coaching him. The pair had met sixteen times on tour, with Federer winning on thirteen occasions. Both players turned professional in 1998, and Federer continued playing until 2022.
When asked about Federer’s retirement, Ljubicic said, “It was a phone call. But it didn’t come out of the blue. It was some time that we he’d had kind of doubts if he ever will come back. But it was silence.” (via Tennis Majors)
Ivan Ljubicic says Federer would likely still be playing today if it was not for his knee issues, as his drive never dipped.
Ivan also says that Roger would have probably been a Top 5 player today, just through his sheer ‘genius’

Federer’s knee injury had cost him more time and it was finally decided to end his career. Ljubicic further went on to say that the Swiss maestro could still play on tour but his injury slowed him down.
He said, “Well, I think that was the only way for him to stop, honestly. I don’t think there was any other way. His ability would not go down. His fitness would maybe, with time, he would be slightly slower, slightly this, slightly that, but his genius would still keep him in the top, whatever, five.” Federer as of now is planning to return to the Laver Cup but his role has not been confirmed.

They often utilize their off-season or periods of downtime to engage in quality time with their loved ones. This can encompass a variety of activities, from embarking on vacations and excursions to simply relishing the routine of home life.
