SUMMARY
- Mikey Musumeci is the ONE Grappling World Champion.
- He is a high-level grappler with various types of submissions under his belt.
Influential podcaster Joe Rogan is the latest to squirm over Mikey Musumeci’s incredible kneebar against Gantumur Bayanduuren last year.
The ultra-tough Mongolian refused to tap while stuck in Musumeci’s signature “Mikey Lock” when the pair met at ONE Fight Night 6, and clips of the painful submission quickly went viral.

Musumeci ultimately ran away with a clear-cut unanimous decision victory, and in an interview after the bout “Darth Rigatoni” lamented his opponent’s stubbornness.
“I’m kind of nauseous right now. I’m really sick to my stomach,” he said. “I never felt someone’s leg explode like that in a match. I’ve been training for 22 years. I never broke someone’s leg that much. I’ve broken a lot of legs, but that leg exploded. I didn’t know what to do, and it’s just disgusting and gross. I really wish he tapped.”
“When I compete, I don’t want to hurt anyone. I want them to train tomorrow. You know, I don’t want to hurt my opponent at all. So, I really didn’t like being put in that position where I had to break his leg.”
The American star is one of the best leg lockers in the game, but he showed off his versatility by taking out ONE’s “Best Submission Grappling Finish of 2023” with a rear-naked choke finish of former IBJJF World Champion Osamah Almarwai.
Joe Rogan wonders how Mikey Musumeci’s former opponent is doing
In a recent episode of the wildly popular episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, Joe Rogan discussed how Mikey Musumeci’s opponent might have recovered from the damaging submission hold.
“He ripped that guy’s knee apart. I don’t know how that guy’s doing right now,” Rogan said. “I’ve got to imagine that his knee is ruined for the rest of his life. Let’s see if we can find that video, because it’s so hard to watch.”

No official update has been given on the status of Bayanduuren. However, the former Sambo World Champion has been seen training on his Instagram, so it appears that his knee has made a remarkable recovery given the twisting and turning that it was subjected to at the hands of Musumeci.
