Sean O’Malley is likely feeling on top of the world following his recent win at UFC 299. Coming out triumphant in his first bantamweight title defense, O’Malley was able to fend off the ghosts of the past. However, as many may not be aware, it still does not make his record unblemished.
For those unaware, ‘Suga’ fought Marlon Vera in what was a rematch of their UFC 252 bout from back in 2020. Four years later, the 29-year-old was able to avenge his disputable loss to Vera in impeccable fashion. During their initial meeting, a strike to O’Malley’s peroneal nerve compromised his leg, leading to an early TKO loss.

This past weekend, corrected the wrongs of his past and pitched an absolute shutout to Chito Vera. As such, many suggested that Sean O’Malley can now, arguably claim undefeated status as an MMA athlete. However, going through the record books, it turns out, that Marlon Vera was neither the only person to beat O’Malley and nor the first.
Who is Myles Mazurkiewicz and how did his fight with Sean O’Malley pan out?
Prior to starting his professional MMA journey, Sean O’Malley started off in the amateur circuit. According to the record, a then 18-year-old O’Malley had six fights to his amateur record. Out of the six, the now UFC champ finished three of his opponents and collected decision wins over two others. However, his sole loss came at the hands of Myles Mazurkiewicz.
Fighting in the Fusion Fight League, Sean took on the Myles in a featherweight bout. Notably, O’Malley who is the champion now at 135 lbs, used to fight at the same weight class in the past as well. However, for this one, he had made the move up, but could only get to 144 lbs. Naturally known for his slick movement and sharp counters, O’Malley understandably looked much more sluggish than usual.
Keep in mind, this was even before his professional career, so he was understandably a little rough around the edges. As for the fight itself, Sean was constantly pressurized, before getting taken down by Mazurkiewicz in Round 1. Despite a valiant effort, O’Malley’s shorter yet considerably stronger opponent was able to keep him on the ground before locking up a rear naked choke to win.
Where is Myles Mazurkiewicz now?
For the most part, Sean O’Malley has gone on to achieve a lot of success in his career. However, as always, fans choose to dig up something or the other to bring the fighters down. Similarly, clips of O’Malley’s first loss soon began making the rounds, just as he avenged his loss to Marlon Vera. With that said, many have been curious to know more about the man who beat O’Malley first.
For the most part, Myles Mazurkiewicz is an All-American wrestler from the University of Great Falls, who graduated with a business degree in 2014. The same year, he made his MMA debut but lost by way of TKO. Thereafter, he continued fighting under the Intense Cage Fighting banner, where he also met Sean O’Malley. As for his pro career, “Marauder” has a 2-3 record, losing his last fight in 2017.

Thereafter, he was also scheduled for a Bareknuckle boxing bout against Louie Lopez in 2021 that never took place. Since then, it is likely that Myles had a career shift but it is not known as of now. Judging by his Instagram, he is a proud husband and father of two. Interestingly, he is also close friends with Sean O’Malley’s coach, Tim Welch as well.
