Los Angeles Lakers’ star player, LeBron James, has shared insights into his motivation as he starts his 21st season in the NBA. James had considered retirement after the Lakers were eliminated by the Denver Nuggets last season, but he decided to remain in the game, stating his undying passion and determination for the game.
James says the attraction of the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy is a big part of what keeps him motivated. “Seeing that Larry O’Brien trophy in my mind on a daily basis,” he said after a recent Lakers’ practice session. James has lifted the prestigious trophy four times before and considers those wins among the best moments in his career.
“That’s one of the best four moments of my career,” James said. “Being able to hoist up that trophy. So, that motivation alone. But also wanting to be legendary in this game and let my game speak for itself long after I’ve played.”
LeBron on his motivation in Year 21: “I just think for one, it’s just my motivation to continue to be as great as I can be and solidify what I want to do in my career and still seeing that Larry O’Brien trophy in my mind on a daily basis. However, James mentioned that the trophy is not his only motivation. He’s equally inspired by his teammates’ daily efforts, their commitment to challenging one another, and their dedication to the team. “Coming to practice every day, seeing the guys go to work every day, challenging each other, trying to get better every day. And so, that’s been motivating as well,” James added.
Even though James is aging he remains physically fit and continues to rank among the NBA’s top-tier players. The Lakers had a difficult season last year, but James’ individual performance was impressive. This season with improved team depth which includes new additions like Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince, and Christian Wood, the Lakers are prepared for a promising start, and James seems energized for the challenges ahead.
LeBron James is now the NBA’s oldest active player
Following the recent retirements of Andre Iguodala, the 2015 NBA Finals MVP, and the Miami Heat legend Udonis Haslem, LeBron James has now become the NBA’s oldest active player. The Lakers’ star, however, doesn’t seem bothered by this news.
James is about to turn 39, but he is still unquestionably dominant on the court. Last season James had an impressive average of 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists. Reacting to the news of being the senior-most player, LeBron humorously showed his still-vibrant athleticism, disproving any notions of slowing down due to age.

As the new season approaches, James aims for team success and also eyes on individual accolades. He is just 1,348 points away from the incredible 40,000-point milestone, which no NBA player has yet achieved. LeBron James’ successful NBA career is a testament to his class, skill, and unparalleled legacy. This year the basketball community anticipates more historic moments from this living legend.
