The Super Bowl LVIII weekend has just gone by, bringing with it a lot of talking points. Along with the big game, many celebrities, including Justin Gaethje, took part in the annual Celebrity Sweat Flag Football Game as well. Interestingly, the event had quite the turnout and hype behind it.
For those unaware, Celebrity Sweat Flag Football Game is an annual event hosted by Celebrity Sweat that features celebrities and athletes playing flag football. Notably, it is a popular part of the Super Bowl weekend and draws in people of all ages. As such, the game has been taking place for more than two decades since its inception. As for this iteration, Gaethje was accompanied by fellow UFC fighter Belal Muhammad as well.
Speaking about the event, Gaethje revealed, “I played here last year, there were many many NFL players on both sides. They were running the offense. It looks like we’re gonna have a real celebrity football match this year. It’s gonna be a sh*tshow and I’m ready for it”. Aside from the two UFC fighters, former UFC champion Anthony Pettis, Deontay Wilder, and former NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady were also present on the two teams.
How did Justin Gaethje and Belal Muhammad get on in their match?
For the most part, Justin Gaethje enjoyed a pretty fruitful evening, despite some jibes from Belal Muhammad on the opposing team. At one point, ‘The Highlight‘ managed to score a few important touchdowns as well, managing to evade Muhammad in the process. On the other hand, Muhammad too had a good outing, with his team eventually winning 76-75 in the surprisingly intense matchup.
As it turns out, Muhammad and the rest of Team RGE had to make a comeback to finally win the contest at the death. All things considered, Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison was arguably the MVP of the game. Despite this, both UFC fighters did well to represent, putting in a solid shift on their respective teams. Keeping in mind the upcoming UFC 300, they were likely holding back a little as well.

As for Justin Gaethje, he is set to take on Max Holloway, defending his BMF title. On the other hand, it is yet to be confirmed whether Belal Muhammad will fight Leon Edwards at UFC 300. Previously, UFC President Dana White had given his word that Muhammad would be the next in line. However, Ariel Helwani recently reported that there were talks of a potential Leon Edwards vs. Khamzat Chimaev headliner as well.
Which UFC fighters are good at football?
With the Celebrity Sweat Flag Football Game having its 24th edition in 2024, there are a lot of expectations for even more star-studded rosters next year. As Justin Gaethje previously mentioned, the game takes a toll with too many NFL players in it. However, if the contest were to be just NFL players vs. UFC fighters, it would make for an interesting matchup.
For the most part, Justin Gaethje and Belal Muhammad would have to be the first two names on the team sheet. Having played football in college as a quarterback along with his brother Marcus, Justin is an immediate shoo-in. Another interesting addition would have to be Jon Jones, who, although he may not be as good as his Super Bowl-winning brothers, is more than capable of holding his own.
Additionally, fighters like Dominick Reyes and Alexander Volkanovski also have a lot of experience in the sport. Other fighters who could potentially make the cut include Austen Lane, Eryk Anders, Brendan Schaub, and most notably Brock Lesnar. Although the possibility of such a thing happening is quite low, it would make for an exciting watch, sure to attract interest from around the globe.
