Since his return on the first RAW of 2024, fans have been wondering if Dwayne Johnson is back in WWE permanently or if it is another short-lived appearance as he has made in the last few years. The Rock made one such appearance in September 2023 on an episode of SmackDown where he helped Pat McAfee against Austin Theory. People expected that his return might lead to some big match involving him, but nothing of the sort happened.
But things look different this time, as is evident from The Rock’s own social media post about his return. In an Instagram post, Johnson reflected on his return to WWE on the first episode of RAW in January 2024. He wrote that the theme, the crowd present, the connection, the reaction, the chills, and the mana were different this time.

He was excited to begin 2024 and was grateful and blessed to be the ‘People’s Champion’ forever. At the end, he added the line, “We’re just getting started,” with a mountain emoji. This led to fans speculating about whether his return is permanent and if he plans on doing a long run in WWE.
In another recent post on January 7, 2024, The Rock thanked the crowd and people for such a warm welcome. He again wrote in the caption, “More to come” which hints at his long run in the Stamford-based promotion.
The Rock was previously hinting about his retirement
In August 2019, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson hinted at his retirement from WWE, which disheartened the fans. In a chat show, ‘Live with Kelly and Ryan‘ The Rock said, “I miss wrestling. I love wrestling. I quietly retired from wrestling because I was lucky enough to have a wonderful career and accomplish what I wanted to accomplish.” But at the same time, he did not rule out the possibility of a future comeback.
He was named the highest-paid actor by Forbes that year, so fans believed that he might retire from wrestling. But he did not retire and made a comeback in 2023 and again in 2024. The ‘People’s Champion’ has numerous WWE titles under his name and a legacy that only a few superstars can match.
