Tony Khan addressed the possibility of Bill Goldberg making a return to the squared circle through the upcoming AEWXNJPW PPV, “Forbidden Door”.
Goldberg has been out of in-ring action for over a year now. On top of that, his WWE contract ran out earlier this year. And the company reportedly showed no interest in renewing the contract with the former Universal Champion. He also claimed that WWE owes him a retirement match. Nonetheless, the Stamford-based promotion has not responded to that yet.
Meanwhile, it seems the AEW Forbidden Door is opened for Goldberg. At the Forbidden Door PPV, the team of Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Minoru Suzuki is set to compete against the team of Sting, Darby Allin, and an unannounced partner.
Lately, Sting and Darby’s partner, who is yet to be announced has sparked multiple speculations. Recently at the Forbidden Door media call, AEW Chairman, Tony Khan responded to the speculations of Goldberg being the third partner at the PPV. “I have had nice conversations with Bill about being involved with AEW at times. It’s a good thought,” Khan revealed.
He further added, “I don’t know if it would be the perfect fit for who Sting and Darby are going to bring to Collision this weekend, but I also want to leave all the doors open for them and their partner for Forbidden Door.
Speaking of Sting and Darby’s potential partner, Tony disclosed that many big names from NJPW are in line as of now. Ideally, it would be someone who is considered a good fit for the Forbidden Door show as per Tony. Henceforth, it remains to be seen who will be the mystery partner at the upcoming PPV.
Is AEW and Tony Khan interested in signing Goldberg?
Goldberg is in his late 50s and he can’t deliver the same performances as his young days. However, it can’t be denied that he is still a draw in the wrestling business. Although WWE may no longer be interested in resigning him, doors of other promotions particularly AEW seem open for him.

Tony Khan also hinted at Bill Goldberg potentially joining his promotion during the Forbidden Door media call. “Bill Goldberg is a legend in pro wrestling, one of the biggest names in the sport, and I have certainly had nice conversations with him at times,” Tony disclosed. He also acknowledged the fact that any NJPW wrestler could appear at Forbidden Door.
Well, Goldberg also had a stint in NJPW. Khan mentioned that saying, “Goldberg has gone over and competed in New Japan too. I’ve had nice talks with Bill about doing things with AEW, and that’s probably all I can say”. Considering the statement, fans could see the former universal champion at WWE’s rival promotion soon if things went alright.
