Cody Rhodes faced Brock Lesnar at WWE SummerSlam 2023, defeating the latter in the process. While fans expected Lesnar to take his revenge, he has plans to go off the screen “for a while“. Dave Meltzer spoke on Wrestling Observer Radio and broke the news to the public.
Brock had been in talks with the WWE management for a long time and was rumored to appear at WWE Fastlane. However, there have been certain changes in the plans. Meltzer revealed that The Beast would be out of WWE action for the rest of 2023. “He’s gonna be gone for a while. No time soon as far as the next four months or something like that,” he said.
If Dave Meltzer is to be believed, then Brock Lesnar would mark his return next year to build his storyline for WrestleMania 40. However, the creative WWE Universe already has an opponent planned for him and that is the WWE Intercontinental Champion, Gunther. “Lesnar v. Gunther for Mania then,” wrote a fan.
“He needs to put over Gunther, man. That’s be fucking awesome,” wrote another fan on X. Fans also consider Lesnar retiring from the ring and said, “One last match for Lesnar and he rides off into the sunset and retires“. The reason behind Brock’s 2023 absence is still unclear and the fans will have to wait for some more time to know the same.
Every PLE that Brock Lesnar has wrestled this year
Brock Lesnar has been a regular face in the world of professional wrestling in the past few months. On returning to the division after his 2022 SummerSlam loss to Roman Reigns, Lesnar attacked Bobby Lashley. The two feuded for the rest of 2022 and continued till February 2023. The duo graced Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and other episodes of RAW.
The Beast Incarnate had a much-awaited WrestleMania match against Omos which he won with a huge margin. He then started his angle with Cody Rhodes which resulted in the duo confronting each other in various Monday Night RAW episodes. The two soon made their way to Backlash and then to SummerSlam. While Brock won the former, Cody balanced the odds at WWE’s August PLE.
Post their match at SummerSlam, Brock Lesnar went ahead to hug Cody Rhodes and acknowledged his win. The segment invited a lot of praise from the WWE Universe and also signified the end of their rivalry. Only time would reveal who Brock Lesnar’s WrestleMania 40 opponent would be.
