Georges St-Pierre, better known as GSP, is one of the most accomplished mixed martial artists in the modern era. He was also admired for his knowledge of the game, as most of his predictions have been based on his in-depth view and analysis of the sport. He was one of the only few who predicted that Leon Edwards could be the one to dethrone former Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 278 in 2022.
Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington is the No. 3 ranked UFC Welterweight and will be facing Champion Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards at UFC 296. The two fighters have gone to openly express their dislike for each other, with the latter even questioning Covington’s eligibility for the title shot. ‘Chaos‘ last stepped in the octagon against former teammate Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272, winning via decision. Moreover, he has been inactive for over a year.

In a recent event at UFC Fight Pass, GSP interacted with the media. He was asked his opinion on the upcoming Edwards vs. Covington fight at UFC 296. The former champion issues a warning to Colby Covington by sharing, “I mean it’s gotta be a tough fight though. Covington definitely got all the skills to win that fight but I believe Leon will win, I believe Leon is better”.
Moreover, many fighters supported Leon Edwards over Colby Covington, including Ian Garry, Stephen Thompson, and Khamzat Chimaev.
Georges St-Pierre confirms he’s not a part of Dana White’s UFC 300 plan
Further, in the same interview, Georges St-Pierre was asked if he would return to UFC 300. He was assumed to be part of Dana White’s speculated ‘Super Fight’. He cleared the air by saying, “I always told myself that I would never compete in the cage after the age of 40. I don’t say I will never compete in any combat sports event but to fight in a cage professionally in a serious thing for my legacy I will not do it”.
The 42-year-old made his last appearance in the octagon against former middleweight champion Michael Bisping at UFC 217. He was able to win the middleweight championship and was also awarded Performance of the Night. Later, as per reports, he vacated the title due to ulcerative colitis and announced his official retirement from the sport in 2019.
Fans and the MMA community were eager to watch St-Pierre’s return to professional grappling at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 6. GSP was supposed to face his ex-rival, Nick Diaz, but the match was later postponed due to GSP facing a shoulder injury. An official date is yet to be disclosed for the Canadian veteran’s return to the UFC for a grappling exhibition.
