Gilbert Burns just racked up another important win at UFC 287 against Jorge Masvidal. After the disappointing loss to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 273, Gilbert has now won two back-to-back fights against Neal Magny and Jorge Masvidal. While Burns finished Magny during their fight, the contest against Jorge went to the judges’ decision at UFC 287.
Although it was an easy victory in the end, Burns made a huge allegation against Gamebred in the post-fight press conference. As fans know, grappling is Gilbert’s bread and butter. Hence, Durinho did not waste any time going for a takedown straight away. As per UFC stats, Gilbert completed 4 out of his 6 takedown attempts and had a ground control time of 5:41 minutes.

Despite such a vast amount of control, Gilbert Burns could not register even one submission attempt. So why did it happen? According to Burns, there might have been some foul play that went on from Masvidal’s end. Speaking to the journalists, Burns revealed he was convinced about Masvidal using lotion prior to the fight to make himself slippery. So what was the trick that Jorge allegedly used?
Gilbert Burns accuses Jorge Masvidal of using lotion to make his skin “slippery” at #UFC287

Burns explained, “100%, I do believe. I know those old tricks those guys do. You know what they do? They wake up on Sunday and they take the first shower and they paste a lot of lotion on their body… The skin absorbs the lotion and then you do that after 3 hours, you do it again. and then after you do it again, and then after you do it again. And, your body absorbs. Whenever you start sweating a lot (you become slippery). For sure he did that too. 100% he did.”
However, despite such a major allegation, Gilbert did not seem to be terribly angry about it. He had a begrudging respect for Masvidal for using every trick possible to improve his performance. But, Burns believes that he would have finished the bout if Masvidal was not so slippery.
Jorge Masvidal has seemingly retired after losing to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287
An era has seemingly come to an end at UFC 287. After losing the co-main event bout against Gilbert Burns at UFC 287, Masvidal spoke to Joe Rogan and revealed his motivation to fight is not the same anymore. Although he did not use the word “retirement” explicitly, his post-fight comments did hint at retirement. He also gave a big shout-out to Donald Trump, who was present inside the arena.

Jorge’s children also came inside the Octagon to perhaps greet their father after a fight, perhaps for the last time. Kevin Holland, who defeated Santiago Ponzinibbio at the event, also issued a call out to Masvidal. But there does not seem to be any willingness from “The Street Jesus” to accept the fight.
