After his victory at UFC 292, Bantamweight Champion Sean O’Malley has ambitious plans for his future. The fan-favorite O’Malley knocked out Sterling in the second round to become a champion in front of the Boston crowd. This feat was nothing short of exceptional as Aljamain was considered the best Bantamweight Champion.
However, after dethroning the Funkmaster, Suga wants a crossover fight with a top-tier boxer. During his post-fight interview, the champion hinted that he wants to fight WBA Super Lightweight Champion, Gervonta Davis. This is not his first time making the statement as fighting in a huge boxing PPV event has always been on the agenda for Sean.
“I wouldn’t mind knocking out Gervonta Davis. I feel like it could happen sooner than later but I also know that UFC is down to get behind stuff like that if it’s big enough and with that performance I think we’re getting close. But maybe I have to go out there and win a couple more fights, win another belt because I don’t even know if he’s considered a big enough star for the UFC to let that happen,” said O’Malley.
Gervonta Davis is coming off a huge win over Ryan Garcia in April at the T-Mobile Arena in Vegas. The event sold over a million PPVs and generated a gate of $22.8 million. He is considered the next face of boxing and can surely pull a huge crowd after his last bout.
While O’Malley believes the fight could take place sooner or later, many fans are not happy with his decision. Fans claim Sean O’Malley might end up destroying his career like Conor McGregor who went against boxing icon Floyd Mayweather.
Fans warn Sean O’Malley to not ruin his career like Conor McGregor
Sean O’Malley did the unthinkable after ending Aljamain Sterling’s 9-fight winning streak. The long training period before the title fight certainly paid off and Suga ended up becoming the Bantamweight Champion. Many even drew similarities between Sean O’Malley and Conor McGregor after the stunning knockout.
Sean wants to follow McGregor’s blueprint and wishes to fight in a huge boxing match. While O’Malley believes he needs much more fame to his name to approach Davis, fans are not happy with his decision.

Many fans claimed that O’Malley is rushing to the boxing bout for a big paycheck. Fans are also of the opinion that Sean might end up destroying his career like Conor McGregor after he fought against Floyd Mayweather. “Plz Sean, do what McGregor couldn’t do and defend the belt,” commented one fan.
While Conor made an exorbitant amount of money through his boxing match, he was never the same afterward. Except for his one win against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246, McGregor has lost all of his fights after fighting Floyd Mayweather.
Although Suga is highly interested in fighting Gervonta Davis, Dana White would be hesitant to make the deal possible. Regardless, Sean believes the fight will happen somewhere down the line, and when it does it would be a huge PPV event. What are your thoughts on Sean O’Malley’s decision?
