Tennis and theatre are polar opposite fields and yet there are similarities between the two. Some tennis players have a grace that is often seen in Broadway productions, while actors need a degree of athleticism to pull off certain moves on the stage. However, when the two worlds collide, the result is often beautiful. And if a tennis player were to star in a Broadway show, it would undoubtedly be Andrey Rublev.

At least, that is the general consensus among Rublev’s peers, who took part in an interview. The fun video was recorded while they were in Toronto for the Canadian Open. They were handed cards and were asked a question based on whichever card they chose.

When the card for Broadway came up, the overwhelming majority went with the Russian star. But Rublev also had competition from Stefanos Tsitsipas and Taylor Fritz.

Alex De Minaur thinks that Rublev is just the perfect choice for Broadway. According to Alex, Andrey has the right looks and charm to sell out a Broadway musical show. Yoshihito Nishioka thinks Tsitsipas would be a great choice, and he is into the arts as well. Tommy Paul named his countryman Taylor Fritz as his choice.

Matteo Berrettini named Denis Shapovalov to star in a Broadway musical. The big-hitting Italian also recalled Shapovalov’s rap from 2019, after defeating Marin Cilic at Indian Wells. Berrettini‘s answer reminded fans of that impromptu rap that Denis came up with. A fan commented, “Oh God the cringe rap from Shapovalov,” as something that he will never live down.

Fans also agreed with the players’ choices. Once again, Andrey Rublev is the top choice among tennis fans, closely followed by Stefanos.

Andrey Rublev the musician

Rublev is a very talented individual. When he is not playing or practicing tennis, he is immersed in music. While tennis is Andrey’s first love, music is a close second.

During the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, Rublev started taking guitar lessons and delved deeper into music. While it started off as something fun, Andrey is eager to learn more about electronic music. He even cited Avicii as an inspiration.

“For the moment I’m so bad, so I need to work on it a lot. I started to be more in touch with music; I started to know more people from that area,” said Rublev (via The National).

Andrey Rublev can sing and even starred in a music video with a few friends, singing a cover of “Steal My Girl” by One Direction. Hence, Rublev seems like the obvious choice to star in a Broadway production.

Andrey Rublev is currently playing at the US Open. He knocked out Gael Monfils to reach the third round, where he will play Arthur Rinderknech next.
