Breanna Stewart has yet again proved that she is one of the greatest players in the history of WNBA. This year, she won the MVP award for the second time. Additionally, Stewart has two championships on her name. She is a well-known basketball player, whereas her wife Marta Xargay, a former WNBA player, has a relatively low profile.
The year 2021 is a significant one for the two as they got engaged, married, and welcomed a child. Their engagement was announced in May, and just two months later, Stewart and Xargay walked down the aisle. They got married in a private ceremony and in an interview on the Brides revealed that they plan to have a big wedding.

Furthermore, they welcomed their first child, Ruby Mae Stewart-Xargay, in the month of August. Their child was conceived with the help of surrogacy. Notably, Ruby was born just a day after her mother, Stewart won a gold Olympic medal in Tokyo making her second gold.
This year, Stewart and Xargay announced that they are expecting their second child. She took to her Instagram to post a heartwarming picture of herself beside her wife. The power couple has been everyone’s favorite since the very start of their relationship. Notably, Stewart is among the very few LGBTQ+ players who have come out and are actively representing the community as well.
How did Breanna Stewart and Marta Xargay meet?
Breanna Stewart and Marta Xargay’s relationship has been nothing short of a fairytale. They met each other during the 2018-2019 season when both of them were playing for Dynamo Kursk. Stewart revealed in an interview with People magazine, “She was in Russia way before me, I came later, I was trying to figure out the team. But then, as it went on, I [started] building the relationship with all of my teammates”.
She added, “And then having more of an interest in Marta, but still, you know, nervous to do anything”. The turning point in their budding relationship came in 2019 when Stewart got injured. She busted her Achilles tendon which prompted her to go to her home in the United States to rest so that she could recover. In a short film that has the story of their relationship, Stweart commented, “Me being injured was like a blessing in disguise”.
On the other hand, Marta Xargay joined WNBA in the year 2015 and played a guard position for Phoenix Mercury. Her wife is not the only one in the relationship with an Olympic medal as Xargay in the year 2016 was able to grab the silver medal while playing for Spain. In the same year when she and Stewart had multiple milestones in their relationship, her professional career took a back seat as she announced her retirement.
