French professional basketball player Victor Wembanyama plays for the San Antonio Spurs in the National Basketball Association (NBA). In the 2023 NBA Draft, the Spurs selected him first overall since he was regarded as one of the top basketball prospects of his generation. Wembanyama is the tallest active NBA player, standing at 7 feet 5 inches (2.26 meters) tall.
He achieved numerous firsts after being selected: he was the first French player to be selected with the first overall choice, the second player from Europe to do so (after Andrea Bargnani in 2006), and the third first-overall pick in Spurs history (after David Robinson and Tim Duncan).
Gregg Popovich, the coach of the Spurs, stated after the draft that the team intended for Wembanyama to participate in Summer League games, but it was unclear how much time he would spend on the court.
Victor Wembanyama’s debut is currently one of the most eagerly anticipated events due to the amazing potential he has shown. After getting sidelined in the Spurs’ first preseason game against the Charlotte Hornets, Wemby’s first game with the Spurs was on the horizon.
Victor Wembanyama will take on the Charlotte Hornets
It appears like his first NBA game is now just a matter of time. According to league insider Marc Stein, Wembanyama will make his Spurs debut on Friday in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. The report seems to have been verified by ESPN, which will broadcast Friday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets.
The Summer League in Las Vegas will start on July 7, and according to the NBA, the Thomas & Mack Centre has sold out of tickets for the first day of play as so many people want to witness Victor Wembanyama make his debut.
Wembanyama will be playing in Southern Nevada for the third time; he already played two games there with his old French team Metropolitans 92 against G League Ignite at the Dollar Loan Centre in Henderson last season. Scoot Henderson, the No. 3 overall draft choice and a star for Ignite, also played in game 1 of that series.
NBA fans will find this contest quite exciting considering it will pit the first and second picks from the 2023 NBA Draft against one another. Hornets forward Brandon Miller is likewise expected to make his Las Vegas debut. In the match on Monday versus San Antonio, Miller played 31 minutes. If Las Vegas spectators are fortunate, both he and Wembanyama will experience a healthy workload.
